7950 lovin and OC's thread

Just got hold of me new MSI twin frozr III oc 7950, only took a few minutes to get it to 1100 core, 6000 memory @ 1.15v. Gonna try higher later on when I get the time, just got to figure out why the max clocks in AF are 1100 max and not 1200 but I think its down to the position of the bios switch. Fans are well quiet at idle and only spin up a bit when gaming or benching and even then not really obtrusive.
well pleased with the performance too. :)

What is the recommended voltage for one of these?

I'v just picked up a sapphire 7950 oc and it arrives tomorrow.

Looking for a decent overclock so i can max out my games :D

I am wondering the same thing (getting a Windforce 7950 tomorrow). I think it varies between cards and the important thing to watch is the temperature. If you aren't going above 70 under load I wouldn't worry personally but I am sure others can chime in as it's a good question.

I believe the max voltage is around the 1.25v-1.3v mark but I'd like to keep mine at a max of 1.2v (thats when I figure out how to get AF to allow me clock higher than 1100.

Pieman,

What temps and fan % are you seeing, idle and load?

Do all 7950s come with a dual bios as my windforce 7950 is coming tomorrow morning too :)

Temps atm are idle 40c ish, load 65c-70c. the load temps are about 10c than stock as I'm pumping 1.225 volts into the card now and its fairly warm here so I'm not surprised at that reading. The fan I've just left in auto and seems to keep temps fairly low and I'm certainly not gonna be gaming at these clocks/ voltage (well, i might lower it only slightly depending on temps over the next few days)

heres a screenshot of heaven:

Thats at 1200 core, 6000 memory @ 1.225v Apologies for the size, not sure how to resize to make larger.

I think only certain cards have it.

Am I right in saying most gains will come from the core clock rather than memory?

Ah right, thanks, guess I'll see tomorrow ::

Not sure if it varies from make and model but on the GTX670 pgi found that they both netted similar results, so max core was the same as max memory, but as I said not sure on 7950?

Thanks Pieman, good to know.

Any idea on stock Heaven results (score that is?)

Seems then that the stock 7950 windforce gives similar temps as the stock 670, though the 670 is a stronger card, if I can get similar performance from the 7950 to the 670 and keep noise and temps close then I'll be happy, saved £66 got 3 free games and no stuttering to worry about :)

In the case of the 7850 thats right, pushing the memory to the limit only gives about 1-2 fps whereas the bulk of performance increase is gained when the core is clocked.
Not sure with these cards though, maybe I'll give it a go in the next day or two.

Anyone know a max safe voltage to run for benching?

Thanks.

Anyone know a max safe voltage to run for benching?

I've just benched at 1.25v with no probs yet and I have seen a post of someone (in this thread I think) who set 1.274v. I think for 24/7 for me personally I'd go with 1100 core @ 1.150v as the performance drop isn't that great and it'd take some strain off the card (cause that all goes out the window if it turns out these run fine at higher voltage with no degradation) :p
