7970/50 Arctic Accelero Users

i wanted to add my 2c, the first accelero cooler i ever owned was for a 4870x2, stock cooler saw temps as high as 110c on the one core, after they never went above 50c.

after my recent upgrade i bought 2x7970's for crossfire, i was appalled at xfx saying 120c / 100c temps were OKAY, maybe for the card, but not for the rest of my rig its dumping heat onto. after pricing up watercooling i rememberd how i overcome my 4870x2 heat issues, put on two of these badboys and temps rarely touch 60c and its a damn sight quieter than the stock, by far.

case is looking abit cramped now with my graphics cards taking up 6 spaces! but there was just enough room to slot my soundcard between them, more than happy would suggest these to anyone who has the room!

it looks like the bottom card is bent, its not, its just the camera :)

Looks like my VRM temps are hitting in the 90's after just playing 20 minutes or so in Crysis 2. I have 2 of these guys in crossfire, the bottom card always has lower VRMs (which seems normal). What are my options in lowering VRM temps? I know there is a lot of info in this thread, but I am wondering where I should start.

Get a 120mm fan and some wire and feed it through the fan, attach it to blow air directly into the AC's vrm area, and attach the wire to the HDbays and the rear of the case:

I had this on my twin AC 79's and they drop vrm temps very well, but mine was powered on/off through my front bay fan controller.

Be very careful with the wires though and they don't touch any components. :)

LOL... good luck mate. tis a dangerous quest.

We should spam Artic with emails about how crappy their VRM sinks are.

Arctic need to learn from zalman and ship full size vrm/ram plates with their coolers.

Installed one on a 570 and it was a piece of cake. Put some regular non conductive thermal paste on the vrms/ram, place the plate on top and screw in from the back. Gives great cooling as well with all that surface area. No messing about with glue or worrying if they'll fall off.

Arctic are either too lazy or trying to cut costs.

That's what i'm talking about

i wouldn't mind paying $10 more for the cooler if it came with something like that.

I dunno what ye're all complaining about lads or how ye have so much hassle. The fan is so quiet you can keep it on 100% and my VRM's never go above 72c at that speed.

1230/1800 @ 1.3v and 1.7v. Core never above 53c and VRM's never above 72.

All I used were the heatsinks supplied with the stuff and the epoxy-type paste in the little bags.

Are you all sure you didn't put too much/too little of the gunk on them?

Most people are impatient.

It says it needs 10 hours or something to dry...it really does. I left mine overnight before even considering mounting it back in my case with the heatsinks upside down and likely to fall off.

Even after like 6 hours the heatsink glue was still nowhere near even solidified.

Iv'e never used the glue-I always use tape instead, but I imagine if AC recommends the time, then that's what it takes to cure.

Although if you have on board gfx, then you could apply the glue, turn it upside down, sit it on the bottom of your case, turn on the PC and leave it overnight and the heat should help give it a very good bond.

On the subject of Zalman coolers, while very good, they are not as quiet as the Extremes and don't give onboard fan control out the box, but their heatsink is by far supieror to anything AC has ever used.

As nothing surfaced for this gens gpu's, have they gave up on gpu cooling?

Question for you guys. Is it OK if I didn't place a heatsink in the gaps between the VRMs, circled on this bottom picture?

Also, in this picture below, are these VRM's as well?

Run Unigine Valley on extreme or better yet play sleeping Dogs on Extreme and report back.

BF3, Crysis 3 and all those other games can't hold a candle to sleeping dogs when it comes to heating up VRMs

I think i should be ok then, if nit ill get the saw out. Main reason im getting it is cos if noise cos jesus its loud. Ive got a good clocker and look to seeing what i can push
