I thought I had bricked mine when I used the gelid vrm cooler as it stopped the card working at all, but it was fine when reassembled without it.

A short does not always mean its been destroyed, thats usually when something explodes or burns due to the short, if you short 2 low power components then it might just cause the board to get confused enough not to work while the short is still in place.

Yea its bricked, indefinite (havent put original cooler back on yet though) Such a stupid and costly mistake. I did have the backplate the right way round originally. Anyone had to deal with VTX3D for RMA before?

I really feel for you. Have you plugged it in without the accelero or its heatsinks ?

you know the larger l shape sinks are to tight a fit, i did the same thing using the insulation tape and larger sinks to but when trying to start the card would only spin up for a split second

Yeah same problem as you. Damn it! (although no cloud of smoke) should have just followed the instructions with it.

Mmmm, im going to have to give a lot of thought to if i want to install this cooler or not - seems a lot riskier than other aftermarket coolers :(

your fine aslong as you follow each step and use the insulating strips, just don't let any heatsink touch any component and use the right side of the backplate

I didn't even use the black spacers so your fine aslong as you don't screw down the plate so its touching the pcb,but even then its coated so shouldn't short but its best to be on the safe side and allow a gap

take your time and inspect it well before you mount the cooler and power it up

Im more anxious about this than any waterblock ive mounted - these stories of fried cards arent confidence inspiring :p

Dont let it put you off, i know ive borked mine but my mistake has taught everyone on here.

Ive put my ref cooler back on and it would not boot :(
Ive sent an email to VTX3D regarding a RMA just gonna wait and see what they say.
Im thinking of selling my G27 and D2X to fund a new card, possibly a 7950 (or 2:)

Absolutely worth it! I managed to get my cooler on without any issues and I'm a cretin with this kind of thing. :D It's now running 10C-15C cooler than stock and the fans running flat out are still quieter than my stock cooler at idle. I would definitely recommend the Accelero to anyone with a stock 7950/7970 without hesitation.

Mine has arrived but i dont want to use that thermal adhesive (small white tube):

- I need my computer for work so having it down for hours while the glue cures is not going to happen

- I dont really want to get that glue all over the pcb (ive got bear hands - not good for fine work!)

so ive just put in an order for this:

Is there an updated manual with the thermal glue instead of the g1? :)

(i only ask as there is a sticker on mine which says to get the updated manual)

EDIT: Im a div... its in the box :p

EDIT2: they dont even include the spatula any more? :(

I'm considering getting an Accelero Hybrid 7970. Trouble is i can't find one any where in the UK apart from an auction site. If anyone has any suggestions, drop me a trust plox.

Make sure its the right one, there are two. Only one supports the 7970 and that is manufacturer code - DCACO-V75A001-GB

Matt, I have been trying to get hold of one since they launched. No where seems to sell the ones for the 7970. The only ones been sold which I can find are the base model for the ATIs, 7970 not included.
I even emailed Arctic, No reply.

Let me know if you have any luck getting hold of one as I would much prefer one over the Accelero.
