The ghz edition bios is crap, all it does is give you higher temps and in my case unstable memory overclocks.

I think a refit is a good idea for you stu. Your core contact cannot be that good as your core temps are much higher than any ive seen. Good luck.

What will you be using for adhesive?

Already refitted mate - I amended my post above rather than add another. I used AS5 between cooler and core as it's the only type I currently have in my toolkit.

I do wonder if it's something as basic as the headsinks not liking being vertical (my case is the Raven RV03, so everything is 90 degrees different to a "normal" case).

In most games I'm still getting only 60ish on the core, it's only really intense games that raise it above that, such as Sleeping Dogs and FC3. I've decided to not worry about it and simply play some games. Nothing's going to melt, so I'm sure it'll be fine. :)

I've started my refit.

I decided to use one of the larger heatsinks on the CHL8228 voltage regulator. I also used the larger L shaped heatsinks on the VRM's. I hope my changes will bring lower vrm temps. Just finished gluing then all on. Now begins the long wait, followed by panic and night sweats.

..snip..

You'll be fine, stop worrying.

Off topic - you might have to come out of retirement sooner than you thought link

6 Hour cure time in a hot room. I put it together.

Apart from the fact i missed off 1 of the tall thin heatsinks (which i applied with tape before i put it together) i think i did a pretty good job. This time i coated the card in G1, especially the VRMS. Swimming in the stuff, i also put G1 on all the heatsinks and held them down for 20-30 seconds each after applying.

End result? I've shaved over 10c off the vrm temps, possibly more. Knocked a few c off the core as well, i guess they put way too much MX4 on pre applied.

Before id tpically play sleeping dogs with stock voltage and clocks of 1125/1563. I'd see core temps up to 57c and vrm temps up to 83c.

This is what i just got.

The VRM was solid at 71-72 for most of the test. Before it would rise all the way to 83c before stopping, this time it creped up slowly.

Absolutely delighted with that.

Accelero users, use the large L shaped heatsinks x3 on the vrm. Use one of the chunky memory heatsinks on the CHL8228 voltage regulator, oh and cover these in G1 head to toe.

How loud are these are 100% fan speed?

The reason I ask is my card makes a god awful noise when loaded up. I'd rather hear the fans over the noise :o

A slight woosh at most. Tbh I doubt you will ever need %100 fan speed. I run %50 and it keeps my card nice and cool.

You will hear every little bit of coil whine after fitting one of these at %50 its silent.

Just uploading a video now of my Noise from the GPU. The Arctic Cooler must mask this.. else there's no point in me installing it!

I'd rather hear the noisy stock fan than the annoying Cricket sound of the cap whine.

I looked into that tommy when i thought about buying those heatsinks. Its permanent, so the lookout for more g1 continues. I really like the G1 stuff, it comes off easily but if you put loads on and push hard (thats what she said) it stays on pretty well.

I can't believe arctic stopped making it and now only provide permanent adhesive. :(

Don't know if you saw the picture i posted the other day but i missed one of the heatsinks off, i used tape instead but id like to take it apart and put the G1 on instead, also the chunky heatsink to the right of the vrms which is on the chl 8228 voltage regulator, i want to turn that so its sideways. It would get much more air from my front 200mm fan that way. Can't believe i didn't think of that when i was putting it together.

Thought I'd bring it here matt.:)

Just use the tape matt, I wouldn't be too worried as they aren't the hot spots that need special attention.

@TaKeN, an AC would 'increase' coil whine noise I'm afraid.

Good thinking tommy.

Trying to decide if its worth taking it apart and moving the CHL8228 voltage regular around so its side on. I only have thermal tape to attach it with. Will that have any effect on the vrm temps? I thought it was linked.

Is the CHL8228 temp different from the vrm and GDDR5 temp that hwinfo shows then?
