7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

I might be all sorted, the motherboard is confirmed working, the CPU I DSR'd in favour of a retail chip. The PSU I'm still unsure on, but have a confirmed working GS800 to do some initial testing on, I have a hunch the PSU I had tested locally (HX1000) to be faulty was a ploy to try convince me to buy a PSU from their store, which was always unlikely given Corsairs 5 year warranty xD

IF the HX1000 is faulty, the RMA has already been accepted and I'd just need to ship it back :)

Eventually yes, either that or a single 1600p monitor depending how much room I have, intend to have 3 Lightnings by that point :)

Shipping I've had quotes ranging from ~£25 all the way up to ~£50 depending on what level of insurance I want, as odd as it sounds I can actually ship it to Corsair in the USA cheaper than I can Corsair in the Netherlands.

Build looks good!! You need one of those XFX tripple monitor stand things, looks like a drunken stumble could knock one of those monitors off your desk! Do I spy a pair of DT990's on top of your case?! :D

I'm still undecided about whether to keep it. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that it's not perfect like a single 1080 screen and I think it makes me worse at online gaming :(. It's definitely one of those things you have to committ to via seeing before you buy or via the DSR period. Will get a stand if I stick with it. I'm glad they fit without the stand though to test it otherwise it could have been an awkward conversation with the other half had I not liked it and been outside the DSR period.

Paradoxically, that doesn't surprise me regarding the shipping costs. C'est la vie!

Yep!! :) DT990 Pro's running off onboard at the no unfortunately. Fantastic headphones.

Blocks are up on the ek store, €115 , so we should be looking in the £90-100 mark, that is for the nickel block, would think the copper would be ~£5 cheaper.

whats the difference between copper and nickel???

thought the blocks would have been available to pre order by now on here??

I don't think they are all sold as of yet, its just a marker for listing them, as they are only listing the Nickel/Acetal block atm. Its probably a good sign that the first batch have been completed and are in the process of being boxed up.

Either that or the whole first batch is heading straight to OcUK ;)

The blocks are going to be in high demand, I'd guess roughly 80% or more of lightning owners are going to be putting them under water.

~£90 each, I'm happy with that :)

A guy on Xtremesystems said he got an order in when the stock was green. I didn't realize that you can pre-order them when out of stock, so I got my order in.

I think they said they are only making one version of the Lightning block as far as remember.

I was under the impression they were making Nickel/Acetal & Copper/Acetal, no plexi tops as the plexi isn't strong enough.

OcUK must have assigned stock from the first batch, after all the waterblocks were OcUK's idea in the first place :)

EK's own stock doesn't bother me as I'd rather avoid 4-5 days shipping from Slovenia or wherever they are based, my last direct order from them took 3 and a half days just to leave mainland europe, on a truck from Slovenia to Austria, Austria to Germany, air freight from Germany to the UK then another day getting transported up here :p

iirc I was somewhere in the region of £25-30 (was for two blocks) which is around $40-50. So $70 for four blocks isn't all that bad in the grand scheme of things.

$70 = ~£45, thats about what its costing for me to RMA a PSU back to corsair in the Netherlands, which really isn't all that far away :(

We know OcUK ARE for certain getting them in stock, when? I don't think OcUK are even 100% sure, 'next week' is the most we know (see cleeecooo's earlier comment from 5UB).

Can only presume the blocks are in transit at the moment, hence the uncertainty on ETA, deliveries from Slovenia can take anything up to a week, maybe longer if its a nice big pallet load ;)

Thanks for the info!

Possible to pre-order? This literally is the last thing for my TJ07 build and been waiting over 2 months for these (just like everyone else!)
