7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

I'm going to ask 5UB tomorrow and see whats happening, an EK rep stated all re-sellers should have stock in hand by mid to late this week, so now?

I'm just wondering if they are actually in the OcUK warehouse and just waiting for rjk to get back from his holidays to process them or something?

Still in the same situation, just a case of as and when for block arrival, another weekend passes without these it would seem :(

While I remember too, those reviewers that said the core thing on top of the card did nothing didn't spend long enough testing it, last night I was getting failed overclocks with it removed, put it back on the overclocks became stable at the same speed and voltage.

It'd be really cool if someone @ OcUK could confirm roughly when we can expect to see these blocks in stock!

This, all, day, long!!

EK are showing as in stock, which means they have 10+ units ready to ship. So whats the hold up getting some to OcUK??

As and when could mean any time, surely they must be able to check the shipment status from the supplier?

Another week of delays and I'll be seriously considering cutting my losses and getting rid of the card.

You guys should have just ordered them from EK. My shipping to the US was $70 so yours should be much cheaper. I will post some videos today or tomorrow of these bad boys in action.

My pre-order is all paid up with OcUK and has been for quite a while now. I'll give them another week and then review my options. Hell if I ordered now from EK I might have them by the weekend :(

I've had everything pretty much sat waiting for this block for over a month, the wait is getting tedious now.

@Vega, look forward to your results, I'm about 99% certain my card will do over 1330mhz on the core and over 1800mhz on the memory once under water with some higher voltages :)

You wouldn't!

Is it just me or has using flash whilst playing games issue been fixed with AMD cards? Clocks no longer drop using YouTube and others as of the 12.8 drivers or flash player update, not sure which did it.

Maybe you guys could organise a group buy to save on shipping?

Not sure why you guys didn't think of this earlier...

Not sure if you've been playing the stress tests Vega but two/three stress tests ago they'd fixed the option to change the refresh rate from Default to 100hz or 120hz, this was the same in GW1. Would this have meant we were playing with 59/60hz before this update?

5 DAYS!!!

The only flash issue I had, I found directly related to chrome and/or a flash plugin for chrome, updated not had any issues since.

In hindsight a group buy and going direct may have been a better option, but we were all under the impression that OcUK were first on the list to get stock and that it would be available from retailers within a few days of the initial release from EK. Based on this it looked like a given to get it from OcUK, especially with the kind euro conversion rate down to £80 - 3 weeks later I think we all know what the better option would have been.

The last I saw from an EK rep (over at XS) said that ALL retailers should have stock by the end of last week, to me, this means EK have already shipped everything out - Still have a hunch the blocks are sat on a pallet in the OcUK warehouse waiting for rjk to come back from his holidays. Wishful thinking?

Will you be running just 1 card? That sounds doable. I've found that with 4-way GPU it's much harder to get really high numbers. Pretty much the weakest card is your limit. I've found to be 100% stable in BF3 (which is the first game/app to crash while overclocking) is 1280 MHz core and 1780 MHz memory with my four Lightnings. All voltages max in MSI AB. Temp's 40-45 C on my ambient loop (which also has 64GB of RAM and a 5.1 GHz 3960x using over 400w to cool ;)). I was hoping to break 1300 on all four but really that's like 1% performance difference.

Far cry from the four Lightnings sandwiched together on air with a max overclock of 1100 or they would overheat. :D

Thats pretty good over 4 cards :)

I will be running just one card at the moment, do have plans to add another at some point over the coming months.

On air so far I've managed 1275/1800 @ 1.287/1.655v with a 20% PL & +30mv aux power, I figure with the voltage overheads I still have (1.35/1.70v limit) and the VRM's being cooler I should hopefully manage in the region of 1350/1850. My UD7 also has the option to feed some extra power to the PCIE lanes via a sata power connector, so I'll hook that up too for some extra juice :D

Also as I mentioned earlier, the reactor core thing that every reviewer had written off obviously didn't use the card for more than an hour. With the core removed I was getting driver crashes at certain overclocks, re-fitted the core and overclocks became stable - if that isn't hard enough fact that it offers something in the way of stable power delivery then I don't know what is :)

:p

Been told IF they arrive today they will ship tomorrow :D

I shame I'm now holding off pulling my loop apart until I move cases again.
