7970 prices

Couldn't resist @ £***, ordered one getting delivered tomorrow! :-D

Deciding factor was comparing the GTX 580 1.5GB and 3GB models which are between £380 to over £500, aswell as the new GTX 580 classified which is well over £500!

Guess i'll be selling my GTX 560 ti 2 win as soon as it arrives lol.

Im sure I recall after the initial stock of the 5xxx were sold the prices where bumped and stock levels didn't recover for months. In that case it was a better idea to order early, but who can say this time round.

Very simplistic view there Surveyor and one thats always quoted when there's much debate about pricing. Personally I like all this debate and without it the forum would be pretty boring. Besides we all have differing views.:)

Simplistic but true.

What's there to "debate" about pricing?

You can say you don't agree with it but that's irrelevant.

What you think they're "worth" and what they can be sold for are two different things.

"Debate" all you like, it doesn't change anything.

These cards will be sold at whatever price the market will bear.

High end cards should be priced more reasonably to what their true value is, the materials are the same year after year and the same as lower end cards, so i don't see how can they justify the excessive costs, things have gotten silly considering we're still mostly playing console ports for hardware over five years old.

What your talking about is COST! Not VALUE. They may cost the same, but their value is derived in a much different way.

Seems as though sales of these have come to a halt. Gibbo said they had about 80 left earlier and they are still showing 10+ on the 7 models they have in stock.

Maybe it takes ages to update.

Why do they have to justify the price?

As long as there are enough people willing to pay what's being asked then the price won't go down and may even go up.

If there were enough people willing to pay £1,000 for a HD 7970 then that's what it would be priced at.

Payment has been taken for mine...

if you were the only one to get it at this price then i think you should get it but they can cancel/refund your order if they have it in there T&C. ive had it done to me before bought a tv online that was priced wrong at £59.99 and was supposed to be £899! but they covered themselves in there T&C so there was nothing i could do about it. let us know if you get it

This is partly why the economy is getting worse, people have this idea that because it's the done thing it's somehow right, it's not, pricing things based on perceived value is greed, pure and simple, we could all be running high end cards for half the price if things were different, same goes for most things, it's better for them to sell more for less, that way they still make good profits but everybody wins.

If i could time travel ten years into the future i could probably bring back a card worth £150 thats a few times faster, makes you think...
