7970 vs 680 thread.

I've never seen Tom lie. Ever.

As for not assuming every one overclocks? The 680 overclocks. Any one who buys one does so based on what they can get for free on top of what they paid.

It's an accepted way of life now. Lock down a product and stop that happening and you simply won't sell any.

I find it terribly hypocritical that people have deemed overclocking irrelevant overnight.

It's been a very important part of the enthusiast PC world since it was introduced many years ago. Infact, I bought my Athlon XP because I knew I could overclock it easily just by using the multiplier. That was part and parcel of why that chip was so incredible.

Well now you have as that review is a mess, whether it's typos or lies, that's not for me to say, but i wouldn't trust much of it with all those mistakes.

Going to take a closer look at it now.

No one has deemed it irrelevant, i certainly don't, but it still scares a lot of people, and if someone can do it for them for extra money they will spend it, if this wasn't true then the board partners wouldn't keep making factory overclocked cards.

No way do I think £430 is worth it however this didn't bother me paying it, as I had already told myself "This wont be cheap"

The amount that has sold from Overclockers alone though tells me I am not alone in thinking "This is the card for me"

Wow finally finished reading through the thread! Im guessing the 680 would be the best choice upgrading from a 5850? Can pick an evga one up for £409 which seems a good price.

Do you think i could be bottle necked by my other components (in sig)?

You would see more gains getting a 2500k, board, 8GB Ram and a 2gb 6950...

I am looking at upgrading to a 2500k very soon just trying to find the right board for me. Why would a 6950 be better do u think?

Watch the video. It's kind of long winded, but it pretty much sums things up nicely. And even if you don't like that one there are at least two others that are pretty much exactly the same.

They were both posted earlier, at least twice.

One day when the time comes I know I can get that last drop out of both items.

But you won't, because as you've clearly stated in another thread your whole philosophy is, and I'll quote again.

I've always lived by the philosophy that I should really buy what it is I want, and not something less and then try and make it into what I want.

PCs are no exception. If I have to overclock something to make it do what I want it to do natively I would rather pass and save up some more money.

Keep on digging man.

The only one digging here is you Andy, and that hole is getting mighty big!

Spot on.....What a hypocrit.

So you are trolling too? or incapable of seeing reason?

Mind you what am I saying? you already showed that you are incapable of seeing reason.

So, once again I am going to ask you politely.

Please go away and stop posting in this thread. Because if I decide to start posting in your threads (the who ordered a 680 one) then you are going to like me even less.

I really can't put it any more simply than that. Show some intelligence, and if you want to discuss anything maturely then hey, the thread is here. If not? then don't bother. Because all you are doing is showing how you can jump in head first without doing your homework first.

And it shows.

No. Not unless I need to, but I want to know it's there when I do.

Any other questions? or are you trolling?

So you don't overclock your cards yet spend an entire thread whining about how your card performs the same as the latest and greatest when you over clock it?

Trololololol.

Do you know what's going to happen in a minute?

I am going to go back through this thread and post an enormous wall of discussion and links that you haven't bothered to look at.

Because if you had you wouldn't be here acting like a child, trying to score points on me that have been discussed over and over.

So, like Greg, if you don't like the thread and CBA reading it then you are clearly trolling.

The 2GB Vram over your 1GB on the 5850 will help. BF3 uses a good 1.2GB and because of lazy programming more games will start to use more Vram. You can pre-order a 2GB club 6950 for £169 which is a cracking price paired with the 2500k and 8GB of DDR3 you will have a superb 1080p gaming machine. Upgrade the gpu a bit later in the year when the prices of the latest gpu's have calmed down a bit..

That's what I would do anyway.... :)

In short - the two cards are very evenly matched, sometimes the 7970 pushes ahead, sometimes the 680.

The major point for me is that with fans whirring the 680 seems cooler as it draws about 10-20% less power. That and it has PhysX, the 7970 has 1GB more VRAM.

That's pretty much it.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the box but I dont need to lie to make myself correct.

You do what you feel you have to do and if it involves going into that thread, then crack on brother.

You have been caught out and if anybody now reads your comments, they will know what a hypocrit you are.

If you use the code you can get another £25 off too :)
