7970 vs 680 thread.

Its not even at the ccc limit. They gave it 16% and called it max oc lol.

They called it the max o/c because that is the max o/c their 7970 got, look at their 7970 review

Maximum stable clocks of our card are 1075 MHz core (16% overclock) and 1715 MHz Memory (25% overclock).

Both overclocks are spectacular. It's amazing to see over 15% overclocking potential on a brand-new GPU design, using a brand new production process. Over 1700 MHz memory clock is actually the highest memory speed we have ever seen!

The cheapest one - which atm is the 7970 and the 3GB vram ain't gonna hurt!

And what you recommend if one splits gaming time 50/50 between a Hazro 27" (2560x1440) + "51 Samsung PS51D550 (1080p) TV for controller gaming?

Or is that a really open-ended question as it seems the GTX 680 is better at lower resolutions (like <1920x1200) over the Radeon 7970 which fares favourably at higher (2560x1440) and beyond?

Please advise :S

Cheers

Got my 680 today and have only had time to bench dirt 3.
Game completely maxed out with 2500k @ 4.6ghz, 8gb 1600mhz ram, 1920 x 1080.
Card at stock.

Result... Average fps = 110
Min fps = 91.
Will post more tomorrow

Semiaccurate were the first to say that the gtx680 would win this round.
Only so they could raise expectations and crush them later. It seems SA were the first to guess right, even if they then retracted it.

The 680 is IMO the best card since the 9700Pro. It brings a huge hike in performance per watt and offers just about every moderm feature available. It's price does not make it a bad card, just a damn expensive evolutional card. Now, if it was released at the pricepoint it was designed for ($299-$349), it would have gone down as the best card ever. But alas, the GTX670 was renamed GTX680 and $150 was added to the price.

This is a massively good card, just overpriced and incorrectly named. You can bet AMD will be copying some of it's features for it's next design release (if they can be added in time). We can also be sure that GK110 will be a performance goliath, offering all that GK104 does, but ~50% moreso.

Lol are you having a laugh. The gtx680 is the best card since the 9700pro. This card is not anywhere near on par with the 8800gtx/1900xtx/6800ultra/4870 and theres more i could mention. It brings less performance to the table over the old gen than the cards i mentioned and is only on par with the 7970 where overclocking is concerned. Its not even a compute card so offcourse its gonna use less power and be smaller than amds card.

The GTX680 is the best card since the 9700 PRO??

WTF??

So what about the 8800GTX,8800GT,6600GT,HD4870 and HD5850??

The 8800GTX was a massive boost in performance at the time.

The 8800GT,6600GT,HD4870,HD5850 and GTX460 offered great performance for an affordable price,ie, most gamers.

The 6800LE was one of the greatest GPU bargains I have had. Mine unlocked to the same configuration as a 6800GT!!

Put your hands up if your buying this card to compute .....

I certainly would not be but over the last few years nvidia users loved to bring up the compute performance of fermi. The point being look at how fast and small the non compute gpu ti560 was and then compare it to gtx570/580 which were compute parts. The ti560 was very fast for its size and overclocked could reach gtx580 speads. I think for a compute part the 7970 is a decent part for its size.
