Seems that they're pretty neck and neck tbh.
I went 680 because I fancied a change from my 7950![]()
So the card was originally destined to be the 670..big deal. If you want to cry at anybody regarding the price/performance then cry to AMD for setting the bench so low this round in the price/performance dept. From what i see both cards offer similar benchs and the 680 wins in the finer details, better power consumption, cooler and quiet...in other words all the things people say they want from their cards. I am waiting for the Daddy Keplar to surface as there will hopefully be a bigger performance increase on last years cards.
Daddy Kepler? I thought the 680 was the daddy?
The 680 is IMO the best card since the 9700Pro. It brings a huge hike in performance per watt and offers just about every moderm feature available. It's price does not make it a bad card, just a damn expensive evolutional card. Now, if it was released at the pricepoint it was designed for ($299-$349), it would have gone down as the best card ever. But alas, the GTX670 was renamed GTX680 and $150 was added to the price.
This is a massively good card, just overpriced and incorrectly named. You can bet AMD will be copying some of it's features for it's next design release (if they can be added in time). We can also be sure that GK110 will be a performance goliath, offering all that GK104 does, but ~50% moreso.
AMD would not be able to use the 3GB VRAM as an EXCUSE to charge ASTRONOMICAL prices for AVERAGE next gen cards.
The truth is that neither the 7950 nor 7970 offers a good enough "next gen performance boost" to justify the high pricing compared to previous gen cards.
I wanted to jump to the 7970 this time around, but the price is just too high, or rather the performance is not what I wanted for the price.
I don't think that I am a fanboy, although I do express my opinions and at the moment they are anti-AMD from a price/performance point of view.
I wanted a good reason to upgrade my GTX580, but AMD have not given me one. If Kepler turns out to be just as poor I will deal NVidia equal or more criticism for keeping us waiting so long.
some amd fanboys foolishly believe that every 7970 will hit 1250 on core. the reality is much different
I have a 7970 and was thinking of changing to a 680 . Are they much faster and why is the 680 only 2gb . Do you think its worth changing .
Holy **** man this thing friggin owns!
I really want one now... My 6870 struggles so bad at 1920x1080 High with 0xAA on certain 64 player maps
A 680 would give me butter smooth gaming. AMD just got absolutely owned!!!
Check this silly review. Take it with a pinch of salt what they said ... AMD must be sending out cheques again to review people. A GTX 580 runs slower on this review than a 5870 on your review and at lower resolution.

There are people who "upgraded" from 5870 to 6950...so if people got money to blow, why not?Lmao what a waste of money but each to there own.

As for 7970 vs 680...I'll do a review of my own- both are over £100 too expensive for what they are...end of review![]()
I can't believe that people actually paid £500+ for a 7970. They must be mad as hell right now :0
