8 Pack looks at R290X

We already know that a mere 290 pro with a modest OC beats an overbuilt bench model 780 going balls out...

Oh yeah because we're ignoring all the reviews that say otherwise.

Anyway..

That comment was just a bit of fun between me and LtMatt. I would be interested to see if LtMatt could match my score with or without LN2 :D

Lol, :D

Challenge accepted, although you will have an unfair advantage. I mean I assume you will be using LN2 if you want to attempt to overclock the 290X :p

Here's the score ya need to beat - Score P15082 - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7348851

Hope you have lot's of LN2 :D

I don't want to worry you but that is quite gettable with a 290X, from the benches I have seen they run 3dmark11 extremely well, check out Gibbo's score.

I will do one game. With like single card at 1500mhz and 4930K at 6.15+ One game thats all. I bench!!!

So votes for the game bench in this thread please.

Multi-GPU with 6Ghz CPU on Crysis....

Test at 2560x1600, all Very High with 8xMSAA...

I'm CPU limited at 1080p with 7950 Crossfire with a 4.7Ghz 2600k!!

Really wish I kept my 2500k.... That thing ran 5.5Ghz 24/7 under SS phase change set-up.

Most reviews say its a blazing fast card, but runs very hot.

It is bound to run hot since it's amd's stock housing/cooling which is basically rubbish.

Once you see gigabytes windforce, msi lightnings cooling and asus's direct CU on these bad boys you'll definitely see some lower temps as well as better performance. I'm liking the 290x allot already just as many others but Im going to be patient and wait for msi lightning/asus direct cu version :D

Unreal Tournament 2003 please (In D3D mode, not OGL or Software), an Antllus flyby with no bots should do it :)

The fact it consumes more juice than a GTX690 probably isn't helping either.

Well Crysis uses only 2 threads, so not much can be done about it. I doubt even a 6GHz i5/i7 can hold a solid 100fps+ for it :(

Leave the game benching to the websites.

At least when 8 pack posts a bench there is no arguing about the settings, number of players on the map at the time or the time capture, game sequence etc.

We saw a lot of this in the BF4 performance thread.

yeah but only because half of you lot were jumping on for 20 seconds and giving your averages so they looked really high. Was really annoying...

There's nothing wrong with game benching if you're going to do a proper stint but benchmarks are there so you DON'T have to do that. They give a good indication of what a card can do in game. Well, besides Heaven 4.0 which has more tessellation than Activision's Poochie.

Who cares about heat on stock cooler all cards get hot!! AMD are not bothered so I don't get why anyone else is!!!

Game benching No neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!!!

LN2 ragging begins at my pad tonight!!! 2V now at my dispossal!!!!!

Agreed and everyone just wants to flame the 290X for its temps....
