85 year old woman mauled to death in her own garden

I'm loathe to point this out because it's a topic that dog fans tend to dance around, as do most people in general for obvious reasons:

While I don't entirely agree with @dowie our current host of dogs are the result of eugenics on behalf of the animals. This results in all sorts of issues, usually these are health related -- pugs and breathing issues as a good example. Frankly the kindest thing we could do to dogs would be to give up on breeding pedigrees (which is almost entirely for profit) and allowing the animals to mix.

I adore English Mastiffs, German Shepherds, and a few other breeds. That doesn't mean their future offspring wouldn't be better off if we stopped breeding them as we do.

Tbf the Earth would probably be a better place in that scenario wouldn’t it?

No.

If a tree falls in the forest logic.

Animals are nasty to each other, and eventually even if we weren't around surely something similar would arise? Would that race be self reflecting enough to produce vegans, or people aiming to save the planet? Perhaps, but equally not -- eventualities and potentialities are fun to consider.

I'm all for this, as much as I've appreciated certain breeds in the past I'm more interested in the dogs being healthy and nowadays I have zero care for what the dog actually is (with some obvious caveats, I wouldn't want a toy dog, I do enjoy the energy and robustness of working breeds for instance). However there is a use for certain breeds due to the jobs they do. Breeding for looks should be stopped entirely but I feel that as working dogs need to be healthy it's counter productive to ruin them genetically anyhow, so I don't really see the need to get rid of dogs from working lines.

The scope of human selfishness and self-centred behaviour goes way beyond that of an animal.

The dinosaurs seemed to be fine without iPads.

I would sooner have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier than a German Shepard, Rottweiler, Doberman...
They are, for the most part a good family pet.
(There are a few bad ones, as I said previously I don't like my G/F sisters blue staff and I'm a fan of them for the most part.)

Lets ban motorcycles, cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, cars too.

They all kill people horribly too dont they?

You nailed it with working breeds, I can see the point of those.

I cannot see the point of making a species of animal suffer for our own desire to have it look a certain way.

Certain groups of Chimpanzee's have been observed committing acts of murder, rape, and torture while enacting war on each other. We're all just animals, humans just advanced faster than all the rest.

A perspective from a vet:

If a Pitbull was raised the same way other dogs were, from a loving and caring home, would they still be more aggressive?

I was the first one to say, dogs reflect their owners. Now I realize, I was naive. I have had 4 doberman pinchers (at different times). Three were the sweetest cream puffs you have every seen. One, from the time I received him (at 11 weeks) was aggressive. When he was in the car as a baby, he growled at anyone and everyone who approached the car. When my husband and I played ball with him, he would come toward us, when we had the ball with so much conviction, he would plow us down, flat to the ground and not slow down. I trained all of my dogs and echinited the same behavior dog. He, because of his temperament, had the most training. He at one point attacked me biting me on the back of the head. We got him with under control, but only with an e collar. He taught me that some dogs are born aggressive. All of my dogs were raised in similar ways. He was the only one that was aggressive. My understanding from the breeder was that many of the puppies from that litter had similar temperaments. We currently have a 1.5 year old that is a sweetheart. I do believe that you can teach dogs to be aggressive. Some though, are aggressive regardless how you raise them.

I didn’t say wanted I said should.
ok, let me reword it then, seeing as you've gotten somehow confused. so you think you're family should be killed because some humans kill animals?
Ok maybe kill only the ones we want to kill, does that make you happier?
why would that make me happier? have i given any sort of indication that i'd want to see anyone killed? you're the one suggesting that humans should be wiped out. or did you not really mean that. was it, as i asked originally, just for lols??

I am not confused. Wipe us out, yes, also for the lols.

They understand the nuance of it in the way a human does? Then proceed to do bad things anyway?
