8800GT Ramblings Thread

I've just had to change my order again. From a Gainwood to a Leadtek and *should* be with me tomorrow. God these cards are hard to get hold of!

Same thing happened to me. Had to change to a gigabyte one. Hopefully be a good clocker..

Zotac 8800GT AMP! Edition

Zotac have went with the reference specifications for the outputs, so we find one single PCIe 6 pin connector on the back of the card, with two dual link DVI and a TV-Out in the front. Rather than the reference 600MHz core, 900MHz Memory and 1500MHz shader, Zotac are using 700/1000/1700 respectively, which should give an impressive performance advantage over other models.

One final point is that the memory on the Zotac card is Qimonda HYB18H512321BF-10. These chips are rated up to 1.0GHz which means they are running within specification. In the past we have seen manufacturers use heavily overclocked (out of specification) chips on their special edition cards, so the fact Zotac have went for higher quality memory modules deserves special mention.

See I was lead to believe that all these cards were exactly the same but when you look a little closer it seems that not all are created equal.

Still it seems like a few people are having no problem hitting 1GHz with their cards, happy days! :)

That AMP edition is by far the best looking 8800GT!
Lol yeah its not to bad. I've not really paid a lot of attention to stickers on the cards before but it seems quite the point of conversation with these 8800GT's lol! :D

Indeed, is that the stock fan they are using on all of them?
I think so, however the Zotak has a cool looking amber LED nestled into the fan somewhere so it glows

Is it just me or do the fans on these GT's look like the ones that will die within a year or so, or the bearings may go and make a god awful noise.

Brings back memories of my 9600 with a similar looking fan, the bearings didn't last long.
