8800GT Stock?

Hi all , new to the forums just a quick question i got a new bfg oc 8800gt on the way :) but i wanted to know if my psu (hyper type r 580w) will run 2 of these babys or is an upgrade needed? thx

Welcome to the forums. :)

It will power 2x fine as those PSU's are Crossfire/SLi certified, but id be inclined to get a new one as they have a very bad reputation on here, been going pop all over the shop those PSU's.

Stuck my MSI one in last night. The rest of my system is old (X2 4200, 2Gb PC3200 ram) - scored just over 8k in mark06. You guys think thats in the right ballpark for such an ageing system?

cheers

for some reason i can't break 7-8k in 3dmark 06
Hmm that seems a little low? have you played about with driver settings at all? You should be hitting around 11K with your spec?

I had a problem when I first installed the 8800GT due to some hardware bug with the Antec Quattro, that hit performance big time!

Yes looks like it, i bought it for 161 but it was advertised at 600mhz, i didnt know it was 660 untill it arrived.

Anyway, for some reason i can't break 7-8k in 3dmark 06

Thats actually looks about right, here's mine: -

Royal Mail Problem?

Hmmm, I got an email from OcUK "Your order has been shipped" yesterday at 4pm.

Today (It's 2pm here gmt+1) I checked Royal Mail's site, and when I inputted the 13 digit number I got this message: "Information on your item is not yet available. If the International Signed For® item was posted today please note that the majority of items are tracked during the night. Please try again tomorrow."

The problem is that my item was not posted today but yesterday, hence it should've been tracked during last night...

I hope everything'll turn out OK. This hadn't happened when I bought my x-fi from OcUK - the following day Royal Mail had information on my item!

Do you recon this is anything to do with the PSU issues other people are having?

I don't think so, I'm using a Seasonic S12 430w too, and with an E2140@3Ghz/2gb DDR2, and I get nearly 11k in 3dm06 with the 8800GT at stock.

Your board is different, but by all accounts that's better than mine, so shouldn't be a problem.

I'd suspect drivers to be honest.

Hmmm I could be wrong but that seems a bit low also? I tested the 8800Gt (quicky) with an mono-core Opteron 939 system, can't compare the results directly to yours because I had to run the test at 1024x768. . .

CPU @ 2000MHz (stock) and the overclocked to 2600MHz.

That test was with a 8600GT, I gather yours was the 8800GT?

It does say '...the majority of items are tracked during the night...' so maybe your order is one of the exceptions that was not tracked that night.

Well it could be, i still had ati tools installed, and didnt do a drivercleaner in safe mode (not sure ho to get into safe mode!) Ill try the beta drivers.

Not really sure how i do a 06 run properly tbh, do i have to set my main res to 1280x720? Or leave it as it is. Ive changed the sliders to performace and set the other sliders to best performance to. First time ive used this nvidia CP!

Had a go on crysis demo and set everything to HIGH, before i was getting 7fps, now it was happily running at 25-35fps feeling very smooth!
