9/11 15 Year Anniversary

I've never understood why people say this was the day that changed the world forever.

It changed the world for Americans, and for the two countries they subsequently attacked in a misguided attempt at retaliation. It didn't really change the world for anyone else.

I was online when it started. One of my American mates was in New York, just a few blocks down from the WTC. I kept her updated with news from the BBC website. We remained in contact until her boss told everyone to go home.
Depends on how much you think the 'butterfly effect' of that act had. Without it and the US's actions in Iraq and Afghanistan would there have been the decline of Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda to be replaced in the newly created power vacuum in Iraq by ISIS. Might have happened anyway when the Arab Spring happened and it kicked off in Syria but who knows.

Would the 7/7 London bombings have happened if we hadn't have helped the US......would the Paris/Nice attacks have happened without France helping out as well.

Might have just had another massive terror attack somewhere else instead without the increased intelligence and security we've got as a result of 9/11.

Security checks in airports and other public places was changed forever by the attack so in that tiny way it did change the world.

And here was a Don that said I couldn't use "9/11". It was an American event, so I used 9/11. (linky)

...and already made a 9/11 (and other memories) thread about a week ago :-)

SO, would someone please answer me, when I was watching this earlier, they started with their anthem, then walked a batter flag out, and then held a minutes silence, before starting to read a list of the dead, every so often flicking a camera between Hilary and Trumpt.

They list was being read alternately by people, two at a time. Then those two were replaced by another two. Did the read the full list of 3000 dead at that time? Or a selection?
How long did this process take?

I was at secondary school at the time, remember pretty much all classes being cancelled and watching the news. Was quite surreal watching such terrible events occurring on the other side of the Atlantic. That day I learnt that the world was ****ed

Are you really? Well then here, im sure this will answer most if not all of the questions you have.

I think my favourite is when people say a missle hit the pentagon, despite there being bits of a plane all over the place

Bits of plane were not all over the place , that's the problem . They were in a small area compared to a normal plane crash. LOL at your so called debunking.

"Compared to a normal plane crash" Yea because planes are often flown into buildings.

It's not my debunking, read the site or just stick your fingers in your ears whatever.

Oddly, I watched the video and got sucked into a conspiracy rabbit hole for a bit, then found that site for a bit of sanity.

Because the site says 911 debunked you take it as truth ? lmao and do some proper research into 911 rather than what your fed. Most of those debunks are total fail on that site.

Do remember watching, was surreal. Looks like this is going to turn it the usual conspiracy discussion.

I was driving to my sisters house and the radio news said about a plane hitting one of the towers and i thought it sounded like a really bad accident. On the way home the radio news said a second plane had hit the other tower and all thoughts of an accident went out the window. I got home, put the news on and watched it for the rest of the day.

One bit that really ****ed me off was the live footage shown quite regularly of people falling from te towers before they collapsed. The news programs should have shown those people more respect imo. No need for us to have seen every little detail in those instances.

Whilst indisputably a terrible act of barbarism it's remarkably sad how many Americans by comparison know and care nothing for the thousands of british lives lost to terrorist acts by the IRA over 30 years or so, in particular when you consider the support by some sections of the US public funding the "brave Irish warriors" of the IRA through NORAID. :(

Day that changed the world? Maybe if you're American, but for a huge swath of the world who have had to contend with "freedom fighters/terorists" depending on your point of view for years somewhat less so. Perhaps a sign of what a USA centric media world we increasingly live in.

In any case 9/11 was a terrible waste of human life and heart breaking for the families and friends of those who lost thier lives to cowards.

I remember my mom picking me up from school, and as soon as we got home, rushing to turn the TV on. All i remember is disbelief. Disbelief that still remains to this day whenever i see footage of the entire event.
