9/11 15 Year Anniversary

I was sitting in the office and normally I would read Yahoo news at lunchtime, but that day I was looking at planethalflife or something. The purchasing manger popped his head in the door and said, "Have you seen the news?, terrorists have flown planes into the world trade centre".....me and the guy I worked with waited for the punch line, it sounded just like the setup of some cheesy joke.

Checked the internet and when I finally got yahoo to load we stopped work and just looked for updates. When the towers fell it was hard to understand from the web what could be happening. The moment I got out of work I phoned my mother who had just happened to have sky news on that morning and saw the second plane hit live.

I was 21 when it happened and it is absolutely pivotal in my life. It really seems like I was in a bit of a bubble before it happened. I started taking a much bigger interest in world politics and followed the Afghan and Iraq wars intensely. It is weird to think that someone 15 has lived their whole life during the war on terror.

Whats horrible about it? Is it just the evidence of the level of destruction and loss or is it a bit gaudy?

There are photographs of the NYC skyline pre, peri and post impact. You also see various screens of clips of news coverage as the 2nd plane hit etc. Fire fighters uniforms are presented with narrative plaques underneath, so you know who wore that uniform etc, there's also the final pillar which was signed by various people that aided in the search effort. Some of the messages that people left their friends and families are heart breaking.

It's not a place you go to enjoy, but it's definitely worth going. Very eerie looking at some of the things they found at ground zero.

Apparently you've never read any history of the so called "British Empire". Ignorance is bliss i suppose.

Wow, didn't realise that the British empire was in living memory let alone the people who carried it out are still living.

A day that changed the world for the worse and a lot of that due to Americas reaction. The terrorists won that day. The laws, paranoia etc implemented in america that day shoes they won. We are slowlry inching the same way.

Rip to all those who died in a terrible terrorist attack.

.

Doesn't change the fact it existed and it carried out plenty of atrocities, but seemingly that all gets swept under the carpet in your history lessons. Btw shouldnt you be ardently defending windows phone or something equally useless?

Lol how's it been swept under the carpet. What an insane argument. You going to hold onto every attrocity in the last couple hundred thousand years and make people alive today responsible for it?
Utterly stupid statement.

The 1997 handover of Hong Kong to China is generally considered the end of the British Empire. That's well within living memory.

Ironic coming from the last bastion of windows phone defence.

As for the last couple of hundred thousand years, didn't realise the "empire" lasted that long, but about the last 100-150 would suffice for you to dig a big enough hole for yourself.

Lol, lost the argument so you have to resort to even more idiotic statements.
You have to go back to like the 50s, how many people is that living memory for who carried anything out, even if they were 16 at the time they would likely be dead now, certainly none of those people hold any power.

Haven't lost anything, son. You seem to be prattling along like because those people arent around its not relevant anymore. Ignorance at its finest. Though not exactly a shock considering who it's coming from.

Is it just me or does the word "anniversary" seem unfitting for such an event. I know it's the correct word but anniversary is so strongly connected with celebrations and happiness.

Just feels/sounds wrong y'know? or is it just me?

Sweet Jesus do you even think. Not once has I said it hasn't happened, but it certainly isn't relavent in the context you use it.
Trying to say hypocracy for people alive today, compared to stuff in the history books.

Its hiliariouse.

Except it is a celebration... of death, whether we admit it or not, we freaken love feeling sorry for people that we have literally no connection to.

It's plenty relevant when people try to paint a whiter than white idealistic image of themselves.

As for asking do I not even think....I could ask the same of you after reading the quoted post...
