Was that the fella who was killed by an Al-Queda suicide bomber who was acting on Taliban instructions? It always amazes me that people are so ignorant that they don't realise the Taliban didn't exist during the Russian-Afghan war.

Because Americans love sentiment. They love it big time, and while the attacks were horrific they have little actual knowledge of the outside world so anything that happens to them is a massive deal. The older I get, the easier it is to dislike America in general.
The Blitz: over 40,000 civilians dead, over 51,000 wounded. How did America honour these attacks on our soil? Not by joining the war proper, no, they sold us materiel and lent us money (just finished being paid off in 2006!) that's how.
I wonder how many thousands of civilians (including women and children) are dead in Iraq and Afghanistan because of US forces' famous lack of fire discipline.
I'm just ranting and I'm sure there are a million holes in my arguement, these just spring to mind
I can only speak for myself but Diana's death though a tragic accident being the death of a young Woman I didnt have an emotional response really though I did feel for her two sons who had lost their mother.
On the other Hand I did have an emotional response to the 9/11 atrocity the emotion being anger.
I think it was because the events were displayed on our television screens and you could see everything even people leaping from the towers to their deaths.
I only have to watch a documentary about it and it starts to make me feel angry again.

I can understand anger on an intellectual level, but not on a personal level as many express. I have an American Mother and yet I do not feel any personal emotion at all. I am dumbfounded and disgusted at the actions of the Terrorist's, but I have no emotional attachment at all and my life was directly impacted by decisions made relating to 9/11.
No disrespect intended, but I wonder how much the need for inclusion among modern society plays a part in the emotional response to events that do not directly effect us.

What about that other horrific 9/11? You know, the one that took place in Chile in 1973 when a U.S. backed fascist regime overthrew a left wing democratic government and subsequently murdered thousands of socialists and trade unionists? Yeah, we don't hear much about that do we?
Indeed, but then Chilean culture has not permeated the global psyche quite like the American one. I would suspect that throughout history the same can be said for any Empire in primacy.
None at all I'm an Outsider for the most part and most aspects of modern society makes me roll my eyes at best.
I think that its a tad silly to think that people who have an emotional response to 9/11 have so because they want to feel included in society thats not symtoms of emotion thats something that is thought out unless you are talking in the subliminal sense either why cant see it myself.
I think that it's the act of baring witness to innocent people loosing their lives in such a horrible way that makes me angry also the couragouse selfless efforts of the N.Y.F.D. add's to my anger.
Not that I am feeling the anger of somebody who hates all Muslims or that I am pulling my hair out and throthing at the mouth. Its just a slight twinge of anger that I feel inside.

You seem to be having a largely non-personal response to 9/11 rather than a personal emotional one. I think many people may be confusing the two. Like I said I understand feeling anger at the act on an intellectual level, but not on a personal one, for those not directly involved of course.
