970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

So my question to current owners of Nvidia cards is this.

Knowing what you know now about Nvidias shady practices, the fact retailers are refunding the cards aside, it's a great card upto a certain limit. Does it not bother you the resale value of the card has taken a huge hit, ontop of that it will now have a stigma attached to it, and so will the name Nvidia also have a shadow hanging over it for a while?

Will you happily purchase more Nvidia products in the future even if they pull of similar stunts?

I havent used an an Nvidia card for a few years, I find them overpriced for the performance they offer, especially as AMD are not far behind and cheaper. Now with this latest scandal and the gsync rumours floating around I just feel Nvidia are trying to gouge as much cash out of their buyers as possible.

So are Nvidia buyers ok with this? Ok with the lies and gouging as long as it works somewhat as described?

case in point, despite me posing a million bleedin' times that i fill my 4gb vram just fine on my single 970, people are still, after 5,900 posts, telling me it cant be done. These people do not own 970s. These people havent got a clue :p

Maybe after a million posts with people still disagreeing with you there might just be a little bit more to it than "my cards work therefore everyone is definitely 100% ok"? Why do you need a 970 to state that a lying company is trying to profit from its lack of honesty? Why, after a million posts trying to convince everyone of your absolute veracity, don't you accept that other people think differently to you on the matter? After all if there's no case to answer at all, because james.miller says there's no case to answer, why are all the etailers taking a hit to sort it out? Maybe because they think there's enough in it to look after their customers.

Can't believe how much popcorn I've eaten reading this thread feel a bit tom dick now.

I've always wondered if it's 'Tom Dick', or 'Tom & Dick'?

I recall David Jason saying the former, but I'm very often tempted to add 'and'.

:o :D

------------------------------------------------

Yes, I will continue to buy Nvidia products.

If you look at new prices and what gibbo has said they will b Grade the few they dont send back for, you will realise realistically the resale hasn't changed.
Do Nvidia and AMD try to get maximum profit from each card? yes
Does Nvidia look like bad with this lies .. yes indeed but it wont change many's buying habits IMO

Yeah that's for cards that end up here, but Members Market cards will sell very low, you only have to look at the value of mining cards for proof of that.

I would imagine anything that ends up on the bay will also go cheaply fairly often too.

Things i have said:
* nVidia deserve all the returns they get.
* obvious problems in SLi

Things i havent said:
* Everyone is 100% ok
* nVidia has no case to answer

So what's your excuse for that nonsense above?

- Resale value doesnt bother me, no. By the time i come to sell, it'll be worth nothing anyway :p But, I will be watching 2nd hand prices closely.

- I can comment on the price; my galaxy infinity black was a few quid cheaper than a 290x tri-x. So not really overpriced, unless the 290x was as well. Gsync rumours are false, started by a known troll.

- I'm ok with it. If i intended at any point to go SLi, i'd be sending mine back. But this is the real problem for me; people are seeing sli issues and writing the card off as a whole - not many people will go SLi. They just don't, the percentage of SLi users is tiny in comparison to single cards. And as a single card, the 970 is just fine!

- the lies etc will make me more cautious as a buyer next time round.

Looking at various places, no the resale value isnt dropping, it wont drop until something better is released and people start upgrading, the number of people selling/returning their 970's over this is tiny, as others have pointed out, by far the largest amount of righteous indignation in this thread is coming from people who dont even own a 970

I'm on a phone, so can't be chuffed trying to sort out multiple quotes, but above you said that you happily fill 4gb VRAM, in spite of people telling you it can't be done. The reason this thread has gone on so long is that it doesn't appear to happen to everyone all the time. Some people report problems in some games, other people report no problems. Everyone knows the card will happily hold 4gb of data, the problem is what happens to games' performances in some situations where the 4gb is full.

Its the not reacting to the situation, retracting statements, nvidea reps popping in and then disappearing which as got to me more than the actual lie.

If they had reacted to the situation and helped out retailers with returns I'd be more inclined to believe it was a mis communication.

Guy's, stop bickering and arguing.

:p

Using SLI MSI 970's here since launch, currently game at 2560x1440 on the ROG Swift. I haven't experienced too many problems, although I have noticed stuttering in Dying Light when access to the +0.5 portion of VRAM is attempted, the card seems to do all it can not to use this section though, I couldn't seem to get VRAM usage much above 3500MB with settings maxed and noticed quite a bit of stutter. The game is very smooth though if I reduce normal maps from max to high and view distance from max to 50%, VRAM usage then sits at around the 3.2 - 3.3 area.

Also had a couple of instances in Dragon Age Inquisition where the game would plummet from a high frame rate to something in the low teens, I wasn't monitoring VRAM usage at the time so not sure how much of it the game was using, frame rate in these instances stayed low and the only fix was to restart the game.

Otherwise they have performed superbly, very good clockers too? +200 core +600 mem! not sure what I'll do yet regarding returning them, will wait and see what develops over the coming week or 2 before deciding.

really not sure what to do. so far been really happy with my 970, just reading this has got me thinking.
i've recently started gaming at 1440 and so far all's good but is this going to start causing me an issue with new games coming up(or recently released as i tend to buy games after they've been out a while and prices drop)?
