How do i go about returning my card? i bought a 970 in Dec from OcUK and would like to return. Are OcUk offering a full refund?

Check the 1st post for details. You have to put a request for an RMA on the webnote page.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/webnote.php

Scroll down to 'RMA Enquiry' and fill in the details. You don't have to put down infor for everything in your pc, just the gfx card model and the description as Nvidia memory issue.

The numbers here might be low but worldwide would be huge if Nvidia acepted refunds instead of ignoring the issue. If it wasn't for OCuk accepting returns I bet most would still be fuming about the issue and not trying to defend Nvidia.

You accuse most on here of being AMD fanboys but forget that the Nvidia forums thread is much bigger and almost everyone there is furious since they are stuck with the cards.

Enjoy your card but don't think everyone likes getting shafted like this. 3.5Gb ..what a joke.

Where did I accuse anyone of being a fanboy?
All I said was that a lot of the complaint in this thread is coming from people who dont have 970's to complain about, but nice try at putting words in my mouth

a lot of retailers are taking returns, supported by the AIB's who in turn I would be very surprised if they werent getting any support from nvidia, yet the actual number of returns is low

All i said was that the doomsaying on resale values doesnt appear to be reflected in actual resale values from various sources

I dont have a 970 either as my 2 year old 6GB cards are still serving me well :D

Edit; just having a read through the last few pages of the nvidia forum thread and it seems increasingly people coming forward and saying their 970 is serving them well and that the main issues are in certain games and when pushing extreme levels of AA/DSr, which to be fair affects more cards than just the 970

AIB's ?

So you should return them, I should be getting rid of my 780's too which obviously fall flat at 1440 too

What stupid levels of aa/dsr are you people using at 1440 to be constantly smashing past 3.5gb? Outside of the Ubisoft crud, som and Arma3 (so I'm told) are vram hogs, som is easily fixed - reduce the texture sample, the game does state it needs 6gb vram for ultra!!!

As for those trying to use these at 4k, more fool you, why someone would spend money on any 4gb card to try entertain a high level of quality gaming at 4k is beyond me. Use this situation to your advantage, return them get some 8gb 290x's or hunt around for a few titans/6gb 780's.

I was one of the first here to import a 4K monitor and did some decent testing with it and several times I stated that 6GB plus was needed for decent settings but less would be plenty if you are happy to turn down settings.

There has always been an inherent problem of some games stuttering, regardless of VRAM and people will soon be realising this when they get the 980 or 290 to replace their supposedly faulty 970s

Definitely, which is why I'm a bit stumped by people moving from 970 to 980. Yes it's a better card, but it doesn't REALLY solve the problem long term, as once that 4GB is breached, it's stutter-fest city even if you've forked out over a grand on the most expensive 980 SLI set-up!! 970 to x2 8GB 290X I can understand, but otherwise best to just wait and see what the 3xx series brings, or if Nvidia plan to release an 8GB card later this year (which is inevitable at some point).

Which why I'm downgrading for a few months to see what happens

Absolutely no point in either giving nvidia more money for a 4gb card or paying for a 4gb AMD card, maybe an 8GB 290X but with new AMD cards just a few months off its worth downgrading and waiting to see what comes out

Getting FULL value for a 970 by the end of Feb is somewhat more appealing than seeing what the second hand market will look like in a few months time. However, I think within that time frame the 970 will still be a desirable card, especially at 1080p where it has PLENTY of life left in it yet. I just wish we knew more about what AMD had in store for the 3xx series!!

I agree getting a 4 gb 980 is OCD coming from a 4gb 970... This issue really needs to be put in perspective IMO.

I'm not risking the residuals, you might be right but you might not and I try to pick cards that will hold their value, also I dont want a nvidia card in my system after this

^^^^ Funny, well it was the first five or six times that I watched it :)

Please don't post the "SHOCKING interview with Nvidia engineer about the 970 fiasco" - it must have been posted about a dozen times alreadyy in this forum, funny though..!

It's more of a side grade, some might say an upgrade over the 970s 3.5GB of ram :D

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1355?vs=1059

The 290x beats the 970 in more than half of the games in those tests so not a downgrade as many Nvidia fanboys like to spout. In fact the 290x will be better where more than 3.5gb is required. The only thing the 970 has over the 290x is the power usage. If you can get a cheap 290x then that is going to offset the power costs anyway.

Going on the numbers Gibbo has stated re: actual returns of 970's vs sales, its way less than 1%.....(so far). I can't see that affecting 2nd hand sales really.... Especially with b-grades estimated at £250.

The 970 is my first Nvidia card for years and years...... So yeah, I am a little bummed at this issue, but mainly at the lack of assurance or info from Nvidia. I would have liked more dialogue with the gaming community rather than an apparent shut up shop. I only hope its a measured silence as they work frantically behind the scenes on drivers/BIOS.

I do think there has been a lot of OTT "card is junk, Nvidia are finished' hype just because of the (to me) daft gang warfare over red/green. I do not care who makes what, I am a real VFM buyer..... and will buy what is best for my gaming at my budget (then blow the rest on watercooling , not VFM!)

I'm still gaming at 1080 and this card is blistering..... and I've over clocked it +150/500 just by looking at it.

That said, my intention was eventually 1440p SLI. I am concerned at the longevity of the card now..... and would not spend £600 on two cards to play medium detail levels. My next purchase is a monitor. Do I now stay 1080 and go 120/144hz instead..... G-sync sounds like it has benefited some users but I dislike the notion of an expensive monitor locking me into a brand for years.

I do wonder whether I still place faith in driver updates, that the card is still good and will be good for a few years..... Buy water blocks and go all it as intended.

There is no realistic alternative. I am hesitant to knee jerk buy an AMD 2 series to be outdated in a month or so, and a 980 doesn't seem good value.
