970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

It makes sense of the weird performance issues I got in DAI. High frame rates but weird stuttering, which was unbearable. I blamed Bioware! >.> I get where that behaviour stems from. Most games like BF4 etc pushed the VRAM up to the limits so.

Well done NVIDIA. Come on, you've had the graphics market to yourself more or less for a while. Thankfully AMD are around to keep you on your toes but how could you screw this up? The PR response has been abysmal too. OcUK are basically doing refunds out of their own pocket right?

Which games should I be getting to test 1440p performance? The most demanding I have is probably Crysis 3 and tomb raider. Both seem fine though ram usage doesn't go much over 2.5gb in either with 2x AA.

There was one scene in TR where you overlook the canyon on the way to rescue the pilot that slowed down badly but again nowhere near 3gb in use? So assume that's just running out of power?

Ive just finished TR (what an awesome game by the way) on 1080p and although it ran good with fps between 45/60 I couldn't help but feel it had very slight stutter a lot of the time. Hard to explain but as if it was in slow motion sometimes, as if it should have been going a little faster.

Turn your settings down?
I'm the wrong person for these threads, never understood why people insist on cranking details so high, if your card(s) choke...turn something down or off.

Yes, take the lies quietly like a good little consumerist and
Turn those settings down.

If anyone calls you sad for accepting that, then quietly accept that too.

If you did then it wasnt down to ram. TR @ 1080p doesnt use anywhere near 3.5gb of ram.

Tomb Raider on max settings is a GPU-intensive (and wonderfully looking, I might add) game. You'll need a dual-GPU setup to keep it smooth throughout. Stutter is unlikely to be due to VRAM.

No, OCUK have full support from the board makers who in turn should be going to nvidia for their part. It is basically costing ocuk the shipping costs, and even then theyve had a handful of returns off thousands sold

No wasn't vram limit as it was around 2gb. Just saying that these 970s seem to stutter/run slow at times anyway. Such as arma 3, on ultra it's terrible, won't go above 30fps but usage is about 50%. Turn off all AA with settings to high and its playable. Why won't it up the power though to get the fps up.

I dont know, I'm also seeing some stutter in low usage situations. played GTA iv last night, that was all over the place with low gpu usage. Batman AA was pretty choppy in places too and again gpu was running at a reduced clock when it was happening. I think it's a separate issue but maybe the downclocking to save power is too aggressive when in 3d mode. dont know yet.

My GTX980 arrived Saturday to replace the GTX970 G1 I'm sending back today! It's astonishing! 81% ASIC quality, clocks to 1500MHz/1900MHz without even touching the voltage and runs at around 65 degrees while being silent. It's superb.

The difference at 1440p in high VRAM situations (FC4, ACU, Watch Dogs) is insane!
