970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Just over a 100 returns ah. That's quite a few seems we've still go the whole of Feb to go and I'd say most will wait until the end to see if any new news/drivers come out. Also I bet a lot of people still ain't heard about the situation.

So is a needed upgrade within 2 years for a graphics card considered poor form? I'm new to desktops and was considering the 970 as my entry to 1080p gaming. Considering consoles (I am in no way trying to start a flame war) last for ~7 years I was hoping that a GPU was more in the 3-4 year range for upgrades.

Hard to say, it's x70 predecessors the GTX670 and GTX770 are <3 years old and <2 years old respectively and still pretty good (the 670 will roughly match a 960 and the 770 is better) however those cards cost £330 and up at launch, not £250 and up so there's an obvious difference there.

From a price point perspective the 660ti cost the same at launch as the 970 and is now 2.5 years old, it may be running out of steam for some but I know many who are still happy with them at 1080p.

Problem with forums at times. Info given out never seems concrete. Some say 1080p maxed out on the 970 will be fine regardless of VRAM and only run into the issue 1440p above. Some, like you say otherwise. To the people who can't be ****** to read through all the pages full of members arguing doesn't help.

I run at 1080p maxed out and have not touched anywhere need 3GB of VRAM yet. Just over 2GB in fact.

try running Dying Light.;)

My concern is that the 500mb loss in ram with the 970 will bite my in the ass later this year when games like Witcher 3 are going to push on the hardware limit.

If 1080p is all I'm looking for then would the 960 better suit me?

To you 970 owners out there how long do u anticipate you will have the 970 until you upgrade?

I emailed customer support about a refund and they said i had to send it back to EVGA directly? i thought overclockers were handling all refunds?

On EVGA we deal with the card and refund if your returning it. If your doing step up then you deal with EVGA.

So if its a return post in CS section and Bailey will sort you, if a Step Up you deal with EVGA directly.

to be honest if your on 1080p with a single 970 your not going to go far wrong, i myself would just keep it

If your bothered by the 500mb drop to 3.5gb why would you want a 2gb card?
I think for witcher 3 if you want reasonable levels of detail you will want a 290x/970/980 etc,

Because I dont want to deal with the reported issues of stutter and lag when the card is pushed to its limits. I'd rather have a card that has consistent performance albeit with less detail.

I just want to thank Overclockers for taking a direct stand on this regardless of board manufacturers to ensure their customers are happy.

I have always bought Asus products where i can as i do believe in their quality and have never had a problem with their performance.

However due to the total lack of support they have shown retailers trying to sort this mess out and the total bullsh*t email they sent me which is somehow classed as a reply to help me they can get bent.

From this point on no money i mine will go to Asus's pokets.

What brands would people recommend instead of Asus, im kinda lost now lol.

Thanks again OcUK

Asus is fine if you buy from OcUK, they are great with us. But if you are really put off, then I guess it depends on what GPU your going for, if 980 then OcUK reference card. :)

Other retailers (the one with the name that sounds pretty much like scam :P) still refusing to take returns - even tho they have a section of their website that actually states the false ROP numbers for the 970... in my eyes thats a breach of the Sales of Goods Act 1979.

This is driving me crazy! - Since I have SLI, one from OcUK and another from scam, I'm gonna be left with a random card. Great!.

Thanks again OcUK for actually taking care of your customers. How the hell did Scam win the PCPro "Best retailer of 2014", almost seems like a joke.

Again if they continue to refuse, because the stance from NV/AIB's is still on the basis it was not miss-sold and as such are refusing to support.

OcUK has support because they have a Gibbo and when my toys are out the pram I make a lot of noise. ;)

In short if they are still refusing in a few weeks time, then OcUK will try to help you with that card. :)

Wow this would be stratospheric!
OCUK soaking up cards bought from other vendors!

That would be the nail in the coffin for them...If OCUK did that...I for one would sign my allegiance to OCUK for the rest of my days!
