970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Gents, I seem to have lost a thread posting.... but I'll ask here.

Was someone reporting that DX12 will allow multiple GPUs to combine their Vram allocation... so in the 970 case this would be 7gb?

Would this solve some of the 970's issue?

(I guess this is hard to say with so little info)

i think this only applys to hbm stacked memory and then no one seems to know if its true or not

the one thing ocuk has proven is they will not leave you up the creek when the you know what hits the fan

Yes agree
it just bugs me when some one says that and i quote

"So the shop that sold you the cards refunds you as a gesture of goodwill and you're taking your custom elsewhere - charming. "

Now if they where to experience the shocking poor customer service you get at scam i am more than sure they would not be saying this ...

Its taken me 7 emails 5 phone calls to be able to get a return on my card ...And then when the RMA was approved and awaiting on email from them i had to ring them once again after 3 days waiting to ask my RMA email is...

So yes i will take my custom away from scam they do not deserve one penny from me....

Like some one said with something like this happening it really shows who are the best and who are the worst at customer service ...OCUK is King & Queen here.....

I'm glad I bug you :p

Given that the circumstances surrounding this thread have moved on, I really think it's time for a change to reflect the reality of the situation as it is now.

I therefore propose that the thread name be altered to remove the words "Nvidia Investigating"

Or change investigating to 'don't give a ####' :)

Bless em, they are a despicable company. Pity they 'usually' make good stuff.

Lots of if's surrounding that really.

If it works then great but it would also mean that older gen cards would be at a huge benefit too.

of course. the 970 gtx is a smash hit. 1 percent of total sales returned thats not even bad . most other gpus will probably have higher return rate would be fun to see percentages on 290s for eg.

:D

Thing is what do people do now? Bite the bullet and reluctantly give more money to Nvidia for what is potentially a very small upgrade (thinking 780Ti to 980 here) or make a switch to AMD and the 290 which some people really do not want to do.

At least the 980 is a fully working card and should keep more of it's value later on.

Keep the cards is the third viable option. The 980 would always keep its value more than a 970 anyway regardless of what has happened because it is always seen as the premier card.

Video cards lose their value quickly anyway. There is always people who are happy to buy fully working cards on a certain auction site I dont think I would have much trouble getting what I wanted for them.

You are right there is no alternative at the moment and I dont think there will be for some time. AMD and Nvidia have had plenty of chances to release mainstream mid range 6-8gb cards but they are still churning out 4gb. This was because the video cards coming out quicker than the games that could stretch them. Now its starting to be reversed and both companies have been caught with their pants down. Its fortunate for AMD that somebody made the decision to launch previously an 8gb card probably by pure chance.

Q4 2015 and beyond we might see greater advances now other than rehashes and small improvements. Next year should be a good year for video cards but this year can probably be put down as a bad year for them as AMD/Nvidia wont be able to react to the furore as quickly. Its a sign when in the last couple of years probably the most notable advancement has not been in speed but in power requirements/heat reduction with the Maxwell GPU.

Well I've finally decided what I want to do, I've decided to go with the OcUK 980 reference as that best suits my needs. I don't really want to give Nvidia my business again but I've had AMD for so long I actually prefer the Nvidia software and what the cards have to offer coupled with the fact that there isn't really a 3rd party to choose from.

Just hope they solve the sli problems in Dragon Age :(
