980ti or wait for pascal???

I would personally get the 980ti but then again I'm not to fussed about the new cards at the moment, a 980ti will last you years of gaming despite the new cards coming soon, its up to you though and maybe you would like to jump on the new cards as soon as there released in which case waiting may be best, may be better to wait so you can get a deal on a 980ti as well maybe as I can see them being sold off cheap because of the new cards being released. :)

Well I'll easily jump ship to AMD if they do come out with something terrific.:)

But lets face it The FuryX with (cutting edge) HBM was hyped nothingness :p

Polaris will be more efficient imo for perfromance per watt...

But quite frankly...who cares about that for the top end cards?

All we care about is a single card that can push 100fps on a 1440p Superwide monitor :p

True and yea Fury X was hyped but i don't recall AMD showing it off as much this early like they are doing with Polaris. The amount of sales Nvidia got from the gtx970/980 because of it's power/performance was unreal.

What I'm saying is people are not going to buy an AMD card thats 10% slower than Pascal if it uses 50% less power.

Even if it cost's 10% less...

That 10% speed is all that matters to most gamers these days.

Nvidia are many things, but they aren't stupid. The mid range Pascal cards are not going to out-perform a Maxwell Ti. If anything they'll end up being neck and neck just using less juice... with an absurd price tag to go with it.

Look at the GTX 580 and GTX 680.

Both the GTX 580 and GTX 680 launched at $499.

That was 40nm down to 28nm. 1.659Gflops to 3.09Gflops.

There is a large market for quieter/cooler running GPU's. I'd be happy to sacrifice 10% performance if it meant a 50% cooler/quieter GPU.

Pascal is Die shrink. No way its less than 20% faster Than TITANX.
1070 will also beat it by atleast 5-10%.
Just look at GTX580 vs GTX670/680.

If you have a high end SKU like 980Ti you will not be able to step up to the new generation mid range chipset, you will only be able to go for the new high end chipset.

If a new X80 card release within 90 days of the originally purchase date you will be able to use the Step Up programm also with a 980Ti.

This all sounds a bit shady. What exactly is classed as mid range and where is the list of what we can/cannot step-up to?

No offence, but your "step-up" program sounds like one big scam, a bit like car insurers who try to get out of paying out on a legit claim, seems you're insured for everything except the exact thing you actually pay for.

If the 1070/X70 is slightly faster than a 980ti, does that mean we can or can't step up to it? Perhaps buyers should be made aware of what they can and can't do with their step-up guarantee before they stump up a load of cash...

No wonder I'm cynical...

The 90 day step up only really works when the market has settled and is mature.

Pointless on new releases due to the small print lol.

The step up should allow for speed increases regardless of tier...but unfortunately you're not allowed. :p

That's why the top tier cards are so expensive...

What point are you making here ?

My point?

Did you not read the post you replied to?

Where did I mention top tier cards exactly? Oh yes, I didn't. Read the post next time dude.

We were talking about top tier cards...like the 980ti....

The fastest cards on the market...not low power mid range cards...

Best to read the title of the thread next time dude.

Here's a hint, there will be a range of different pascal cards. Even the midrange one will beat the current 980ti - so no, we're not talking about only top tier cards.

Will they?

Are you totally sure?

You're Hilarious :p

You just made dat up guv :p

I'll say it again.

The new cards will barely beat a 980ti in performance, but they will be far nicer on your psu. The real game changer will happen when they finish drip feeding the tech and release the ti versions in 2017.

Wait a while for prices to drop and get two 980ti.

You work for Nvidia then? Cause as I see it your statement is all here say.

In theory they should beat a Ti.

28nm down to 16nm is quite a drop. Last time that happened which was 40nm down to 28nm saw double performance from previous gen cards. Its not a simple architecture change like kepler to maxwell.

How much of an improvement did that bring? 780Ti vs 980 with JUST an architecture change.

If kepler-maxwell is anything to go by. A 1080 with 2000 cores will beat a 980Ti. That's without a die shrink.
