Hi, I ran the the down load and got an error message,
pbsetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I am running Vista 64 bit, so not sure why I got this message.
Also is there a Punk Buster 64bit version ! ?

I really love BF2 and can not get pb to work ! ?
 
been playing this game for nearly 2 years :)

sniping my way in the WOoKie Sniper Clan was a high point.

play mostly IO nowadays ,with my l96a1.

still think its the best online shooter ,cod4 is ok but the maps are to small and gets boring after a few rounds.

i just hope bf3 is better.

playing on vista 64 ultimate ,q6600,4gb ram ,2900xt ,1600x1200 4xaa

Yep, I ran pbsetup.exe
I get the update widow appear when I launch pb in the BF2 folder.
The problem occurs when I try to get on to a multiplayer server. As soon as I have loaded the map and get the kit choice I am kick off the server for a pb violation !

make sure punkbuster A and B services ar running ,and also make sure windows firewall of other firewall is allowing them to function.

some anti virus can also stop them from working.

i use kaspersky and windows firewall and everything works ok on vista 64.

Yeah as Verzili says make sure PB A and B are allowed in your firewall settings ....

BTW when I run PBsetup.exe I just do it from desktop and once my games are updated I delete all the other icons/crap it leaves behind .... Ive never actually ran this in the BF2 folder (not that it should make any difference)
 
Arghh... I've been searching everywhere for an 'Invalid CD KEY' error... I have the downloaded version of BF2, tried all of the suggested fixes on Google - no avail :(
 
Stupid question time. My pc will finally have moved into the 21st century by then end of next week and I figured I would install BF2 again, only problem is I can't remember if I have to install all the patches or if some of them incorporate others. Also, isn't there a specific order to installing them if you have special forces or am I going crazy?
 
Thanks guys for the help on pb, I think I will reinstall BF2 and pb from the installation CD ROM. When I installed the BF2 on to my new Vista build PC I did not install pb from three, instead opting to do it from the web with a 64bit pb version. I think this is were I have gone wrong. I need to installed from CD then down load updates from 64bit from the the pb home page.
I will let you know how I get on.
 
I reinstalled it yesterday, its taken the best part of three years but now i have an ISP (virgin) where my pings are low enough to play it.

Sure, gamespy have had a counter on their front page for years now. Right now it shows 6k players but check in 8 hours and it should be much more.

Its 3 years old but I dont know of any game to replace it yet, 2142 isnt as popular. I dont think any of the other bf games rival it properly, bf3 is just a distant rumour probably 2 years or more away at least

Plus there is like 2 dozen different mods for the basic game including a couple with several thousand more players

COD4 is less popular then bf2 :eek:


3 years after the demo I still havent maxed out the engine, I guess that makes it pretty versatile though obviously it doesnt match modern graphics anymore

I just installed this again after recently getting a joystick. Does anyone have tips for flying jets? I'm good with using the bombs, shooting down choppers with the machine gun and everything else really, it's just fighting with other jet pilots that is giving me hassle.

I will cruise around with the bombs armed so I don't spook pilots when I'm on their tail. I will then get a nice distance, switch to missiles and shoot 2/3 at them. Most of the time they will just turn hard and the missiles will fly right past them...when I attempt something similar I always get nailed. They just seem to turn a lot tighter than me, regardless of the jet they're flying. Is this to do with their sensitivity? I remember using a mouse and being able to turn ridiculously tight when I had the sensitivity up high. This was years ago though.

Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Just found a good guide which is helping. I guess it will just come with practice.

There is a new patch in the works for Vanilla BF2 as a sort of Birthday celebration for three years….To be fair anyone flying in Vanilla BF2 or even getting top scores is still a Newbie as the Real game comes to life with Project Reality Mod…..Once you get into it you wont go back to normal BF2 which is kind of play-group skill level.

If you just want a Fun, easy round then the Vanilla is great, if you want a challenge with high skill needed and team play then try the Mod…..
