A battlefield2 thread

Well, it appears that's it :(

My Revive Launcher v0.8.6 is stuck logging in. All battle.co posts forward to this https://reviveheroes.com/

I can't believe EA have closed it down just because their other games are not as popular. I paid £30 for BF2 so don't see how they are allowed to just close down the multiplayer side of the game - basically just turn the game off even though everyone has paid for a service

edit - BF2 Revive may be closed down but BF2 Hub is not

:D

Just created yet another account and loads of servers including the SUPER@Karkland

@Guest12

yeah mate bf2hub works well and hopefully stupid EA does not close it down or that will be end of bf2 for us all.
and that would be a nightmare.

also you can still use your old bf2 name but tour ranks will all be gone.

I thought they closed Revive because of they didn't want people playing the better old games that they don't make money on?
I had no idea about bf2hub to be honest. No point, i'm ranking up again now :)

Anyone still playing BF2? I found out that I have two copies of it on CD/DVD when I was tidying up earlier, think I might have to install it then figure out what patches are needed. :)

Hi.

I installed it a few months ago. I haven't played it much but I might fire it up again soon as it's still one of the best multiplayer games ever made. It's sad because there was an AIO installer called Revive launcher that included BF2 and all the extra packs but the devs shut it down meaning you need to install everything from the DVD's and the patch too (or use Steam). You also need a program called BF2Hub that saves your stats etc. just like Gamespy used to do before it shut down.

I know a year ago a few members from OCUK where trying to get a regular BF2 session sorted but I didn't have time to join in so I don't know if it ever got off the ground?

From what I gathered a bit ago EA did not shut it down but kindly emailed one of the devs to take EA logos off the Revive website. The devs got spooked and pulled the plug much to the annoyance of the entire Revive community. Repeated requests from the community to reverse the decision has fallen on deaf ears - the devs simply don't care, even though they have put many many hours into building up Revive from nothing. But at least BF2Hub pretty much does everying Revive did but with the extra headache of having to source the DVD + patch to play the game.

if you know where to look there are several forums that have the full game plus all the extra like special forces in one go if you cant source a DVD. It also comes with relevant keys. I am not sure if its even possible to buy the game currently, but when you do install the game you will need to install BF2HUB and then follow the instruction on their website.

There are still few servers that are full round the clock and still has a following but unfortunately not many years left now before it will dwindle down to just the hardcore. Its a shame as its easily the best battlefield game ever released nothing even compares to it for fun and playability.

I think it was a little more complicated than that, EA told them to stop including the game with their software as they were making money( not sure how) from this whole thing. EA did not like someone profiting from their intellectual property and sent them email, basically told them to stop or see you in court. The developers did not have the ability to provide the content they envisaged for free as it was more than just a software and server, it was a whole environment and even wanted to provide new content based on the BF2 engine, naturally they wanted to be rewarded for their hard work(Money) but EA killed it. Well this was my understanding of it could be wrong.

You have to install the patches in the correct order, 1.3, 1.41 and then 1.5 and you might get the alt-Tab bug so you will have to install that also and might need to reinstall punk buster again too or updated it before it works and cant remember if you need Directx9 for windows 10. If you register on Super@infantry forum there is more information there on what you might need.

Thanks for that, once I some spare time I'll see if I can get it done. :)

Hey @Journey did you get it installed?

I may have the Revive launcher if anyone wants it. It might be on my other PC. I've read that BF2Hub will work with it. I can upload it to google downloads or something similar. It's basically BF2 and Special Forces in a slick installer. No messing with DVD's and what not.

Can you legally download this? I definitely don't have my discs anymore :D

Maybe follow AMDPower's advice. Me I have the discs  but even if you don't it's only a couple of quid for the DVD off ebay.

Ah hold on, I think I got the full edition on Origin!

I am not sure the origin one works with bf2hub.

You can't install it and expect it to work, you might have to use the revive launcher if you can still get it. It contains everything you need without having to install patches, etc. But still require BF2HUB to be installed afterwards.
You can find the full installation file online if you know where to look.
The game is still alive, dated but still the best battle field and multiplayer fps game ever made, really a masterpiece.:)
