A battlefield2 thread

We will get right to the point: Electronic Arts Inc.' legal team has contacted us and nicely asked us to stop distributing and using their intellectual property. As diehard fans of the franchise, we will respect these stipulations.

So can we play or not?

I don't get EA. Do they think we're all playing a 10 year old game because it's free and we can't afford the modern titles?

I've just been on for ~30 minutes, so yes

No, they know we're playing a 10 year old game because it's better than the tripe they come up with now and they can't make any more money on it.

If you're looking to play I suggest joining super@infantry servers.... The revive network has or will be going so your rank there will be lost.

You can join through the BF2hub and apparently there is a way to sign in with your old stats.

However revive network will be going at some point! So So SO upset with EA. They are utter scum........ Cancelled my pre-order for SWBF2 anyways.

Really, that's a bag of ballsacks. BF2 is the only game I have played and enjoyed in around a year!
Where there is demand though - I'm sure someone will come up with a way of playing BF2 even if it's by dodgy means

Yeah you can still play, just will be at greatly reduced player count which will probably shrink. Just search super@infantry

I'm not surprised EA did this, there were so many servers with so many players compared to other Battlefield games, that EA probably saw it as a threat that a lot of Battlefield players wouldn't purchase another Battlefield game.

I honestly feel sorry for you guys and others who managed to play an old favourite, i still wish MOHAA was still around.

Other than the launcher taking a few minutes to load up, I can't see anything different.

Still amazed so many people still playing this. Don't know why I left to be honest.

I still amazed the game has a strong following and even despite ea trying to kill it. For me its part nostalgia and part just bloody amazing game play. Its like the old supermario and Zelda on the NES ands SNES they just timeless classics. Never get boarded to be honest, I suppose nostalgia is such anpowerfull emotion. The vast majority of people who play bf2 are in their late 30-40's. Its actually has a mature following. Specially in Europe/USA. I can understand newer generation will not like it much but for us growing up during 2000-2015 time frame this game defined online multiplayer action with 64 players, emmersive game play and commander, large maps, fluid and fast game play. I hope the game lives on as long as possible. If EA are clever they will just take the same game and don't change anything apart from the visuals and no battle field 3 was a flop. DONT CHANGE ANYTHING EA NOTHING.

It was the last great Battlefield to a large portion of the Battlefield playerbase, the server population indicates that enough.

For me, i never was around for Battlefield 2, but i did play Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2142 which were great games, but if Bad Company 2 had the ability to strafe i'd be all over it again.

I would happily pay money for other EA Battlefield games (or a new one) if it was similar in ease of dynamics to BF2 and proper squad help. As in requiring different classes to win a round.
Now it seems they have sold out for fast paced graphics and fancy kill streaks and stuff.

A BF2 with updated graphics, physics engine where all building, walls, trees etc. could be destroyed would be very nice EA. Simple things like limiting grenades to 1 or 2 per person, holes being blasted in the ground, not OTT graphics and big wow factor stuff like blimps but proper modern realistic but still fun to play warfare - working together, simple fun. In my head it looks like BF2 but more real with better physics and just more life like.

That or there's no point in reinventing the wheel - 'BF2 Revamped' Exactly the same BF2 but with updated lobby and a game that never crashes. I'd pay another £30 for that 100% :D

I have a retail DVD copy of the game (with serial code) and I am messing around with the 'singleplayer' mode at the moment. I haven't really played BF2 before so I have a couple of questions:

How can I customise my loadout? Do I accrue 'XP' in any way in the game (especially singleplayer)
Now that the revive thin has gone (and I don't have the launcher), is there any way to play online with a retail disk?

Also, do the patches have to be applied in order? My disk comes wityh 1.0.2something, so would I need to go to 1.1 (or whatever it would be) first?

You will not see another bf2 remake because they did that with back to karkand dlc on bf3 and even that was a flop as not quite the same. Every bf game after bf2 was garbage apart from bc2. Even bc2 wasn't a patch on bf2 but was ok.

While I mostly agree with you, I think BF1 is a fantastic game. However BF2 is unquestionably the best one.
