hey folks, in a little over a week im going to be buying all the jazz for my sexy core 2 duo e6600 system, but before i do i have a few questions

1) i already have a 550 watt power supply, is it safe to assume thats plenty for a core 2 duo system with a 8800 gtx included? i may plan to overclock too...

2)im playing on buying one of the motherboard/cpu/ram bundles of overclockers, and im wondering which motherboard of the 6600 bundles offeres the best performance for both general use and overclocking?

3) in terms of size will a 8800 gtx fit inside a chieftec dragon case, the ones that alienware used to have?

4) i know this one will be hard to answer but how easy is overlclocking a core 2 duo? baring in mind the closest ive come to overclocking is and old gfx card, are there failsafes to protect ejjits like myself? or is it just that easy?

im sorry if this is the same as the other several million topics, hehe, but i just wanna be sure, especially when im spending the best part of a grand, hehe

cheers in advance fellas, stay groovy.... :)

1) Is your current PSU a good, high-quality one? If it is I think you'll be fine. If it's not, you'll need a new one.

4) OC'ing is super easy for someone who understands what they're doing. Read up and take care. There are safeguards for most things. Take it slowly and approach it from a knowledgeable perspective.

Time for a new one, I reckon. Look for something in the 500-600W range from quality manufacturers like FSP, Tagan, Corsair, OCZ, Enermax, and a few others.

cheers stickroad, as i say though, im going to pick one of the e6600 bundles form the range on overclockers, just wondering which would be the best...

parts needed

cpu
ram
mobo
graphics card

the last one will be an 8800 gtx bfg model

yeah i do billy, a lovely green one, would love to keep it if i could...

ive already got a 7800 gt in there with one of those custom heatsinks on them, big black ones there name escapes me..., thats fits with room to spare by all accounts, its the length that bothers me...

hehe, "length"...

Ok heres what i have so far, all the parts you've listed.

CPU - Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 £149.21 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-127-IN

CPU Cooler + Heatsink - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro £16.44 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-017-AR

Motherboard - Asus P5B Deluxe £123.36 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-150-AS

Memory - Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator £205.61 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-124-CS

Graphics Card - BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB £399.49 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-035-BG

Power Supply - Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular £70.49 inc VAT http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-CS

The E6400 will overclock above the E6600 speeds quite easyily so no need to get the E6600.

If your looking to overclock you will need another CPU Cooler and Heatsink the one that comes with the Processor just wont cut it.

Total : £976.30

I notice they only do a 6300 bundle with 1 gig of ram. Don't know if you can 'upgrade' a bundle or whether you just have to add another stick to get 2 gig.

Will you be overclocking, if you are then you can be specced high end hardware. If not then you can get cheaper ram/motherboard :).
