A levels

I work hard and play hard, lol!
But many people haven't even started their revision, I've been writing up two years worth of geography, history and maths notes. Is this normal for a 16 year old girl?

Not sure about any of the subjects but one thing I would say is DONT commit yourself to giving up a particular subject (if at all).

By all means do them for a year as AS levels but then, come the end of your first year, re-evaluate what you want and how you found them - that way you put maximum effort into all subjects by not thinking "Oh Im giving this up next year anyway so I cant be arsed with this piece of homework/coursework".

I did Economics, Maths, Further Maths, Computing and Physics as AS-levels and had no clue what I wanted to give up, in fact, I didnt want to give up any of them but after a year, I decided that economics, whilst I got an A, I didnt enjoy it as much as the other 4 subjects - so I gave it up. I think if I'd have decided that before I even started I'd of lapsed concentration and scrubbed the chance of getting that A.

I did NO revision for GCSE

GCSEs are really pointless once you've got A-levels, and A-levels are worthless once you've got a degree. They're all stepping stones.

No my little sister is doing exactly that, i've been pushing her really hard telling her i'd beat her up if she didn't do better than me. I guess it's different in Scotland I took 8 standard grades 5 highers and 3 advanced highers. I coped up until this year i got into uni with an unconditional so gave up 2 advanced highers.

Ok this is a serious thread (for once)!

In september I am going to be taking 4 A levels:
English Language
English Literature
History
Geography

I am then going to drop History at AS level, I was wondering if anyone had already done these subjects and if anyone can tell me the work load or any tips on getting through these subjects.
Thanks :)

I did History As and English lit As and A2

To be frank with you mate it all depends on the exam board with regards to the work load....

History is easy in all honesty, if it wasn't so horrendously boring then I would have done it all the way!

English lit is fairly difficult with OCR... It has a lot to do with your coursework unfortunately which is why I only got 440 overall....
If you can crack the coursework then it should be easy if you're good at lit crit and can remember plots and quotes.....

English language depends on the board, it can be an absolute nightmare or a walk in the park.

Mates doing Geo at A Level said it was a piece of cake....

I did 4AS and 3A2s
Work hard for your AS's and it will be a breeze in your last year of school! That's what I did and it left me needing BBC for UCL in my A2's to make the offer and DDC for my insurance of King's.

Take it as it comes and put your back into it for your AS exams. Its worth it- trust

Good Luck with them!

if you enjoy the subjects you should be fine, if you don't you'll struggle for motivation, so my advice is to pick something because you enjoy it, not because you think you need it for a future career. I speak from experience on this.

re: revision, only you know how much you need to do/want to do, don't get caught up in what other people do. Personally i only looked over things the day before the exam, if that.

Yah Rly :p. Sounds pretty easy to me. (except the art bit ;)).

Did History and Geog at A-level, work load wasn't that high. From my expirence assuming you not crap at either History of Geog you will be fine at A/S level which are barely a step up from GCSE, A2's are harder but if you put the work in you will be fine.

I however didn't put the work in, just stopped doing anything after the first half of my second year, came out with a C in both History and Geog, with minimal effort.

Now at UWE doing a History Degree which seems to be going well enough just got 3 exams to do in may/june.

Oh as for GCSE revision, did about 2 hours of science Revision before the exam came out with 2 b's which considering my coursework marks meant that i needed more than 95 percent in the exam to get a B. Which i managed as it was a piece of ****. Oh yea and that was my total GCSE revision.

GCSE's were simple pimple. Now I'm doing my A-Levels cor blimey I wish the phasing from gcse's to these was a bit more graduate, I'm doing maths, physics, applied ict and media studies and the first two are providing to be quite difficult, and the latter have a lot of work contained.

I got an E and a U in 2 of my exams which I'm retaking yet I'm still predicted a B, I just can't put the work in, i'm too lazy and unfortunately i've got the family business just to fall back into for a decent salary at the end of the day, and that's reduced my motivation to a dot, oh and i can't get off ocuk, i'm officially addicted. lol :p

This is what i discovered. I was getting As for both pieces of my coursework, a B overall as i didn't do so well on the exam. Go into A-Level, completely different and a lot harder.

I now loathe the words 'Case Study' -_-;;

Heh.. there's one for every little word.. and it seems they're all in Wales for us with words which don't include vowels :(

We only have computing.. and I want to be an engineer :D

What are you predicted?

Able to do Further Maths? Can help out for Engineering. Just at the end of my last year doing Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Got an unconditional for Automotive Engineering, but you dont see me dropping subjects. ;)

I could.. but at my school even with 5 subjects you only get 2hours off a week for free periods, the rest being lessons non-stop :/ Subjects come in 2hr blocks and I think you get 3-5 blocks depending on the subject, more sometimes.

Ridiculous amount of maths as it is, don't want to do further, even though I could. I can't see me doing ~17hrs maths/week :/

I prefer physics to large amounts of maths :)
