A simple request....

I'm with you in general, but you really need to understand that the OT wasn't included as a "marketing excercise". The Jews get very pent up about the fact that it's even called the OT, as it implies that it's not complete which they think it is (don't acknowledge the NT as being even half as important). Anyways, the OT really did come first, and has been acknowledged and around for a lot longer than the NT. That said, the OT did come about from a bunch of people sitting down and deciding which books should end up in the final version. A lot of stuff got left out, and a lot of stuff was put in for less good reasons than the other stuff.

Of course it's contradictory, it's a narration of what happened written by man, in most cases a long time after. And it's really not all meant to be taken word-for-word literally.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of what religion has done to our planet and its people, but lets not get too carried away.

Explain how a person can live life cheating, stealing and killing then repent his sins and get into heaven, wheras a personal living their life in an honest, kind, meaningful way will go to hell, purely because they don't believe in god?

What a beautiful religion.

I can't understand why people are actually offended by these pictures. If you're so confident in god existing and looking over you, why does it bother you that people joke about it.

Some people are just ridiculous.

Personally, I am an atheist, and I am proud to be one. I see no reason why I should believe in something which has absolutely no proof or cold reason.

However, I will respect the religions of others.

Unfortunately I will also be amused by religious satire. And that is what we get on these forums. People make amusing images not because they are overtly anti-christian or anti-muslim or anti-jewish, but because they've found an image which presents itself as something with a humourous twist.

I apologise to all those who actually have faith in their religion but I will not apologise for myself, or those who can find humour.

If I actually had faith then I would be able to understand why some of these images may seem insulting, but I do not have that faith, and from where I stand then I actually applaud people for bringing some humour to our otherwise boring lives (this is assuming that you guys work and get bored at work).

Think about it this way, would your God want you to chastise people on a forum that are bringing joy to masses just because they are ever so slightly infringing on your belief? Would it be better if they left it and allowed an unknown amount of people to slowly stew at work and eventually rise up and kill their bosses?

I apologise for not having read the thread in its entirety to find the answer to my question, but is the OP talking about pictures of Jesus with a speech bubble saying "xxxxxxx, LOL"?

If so, then pardon my insensitivity if that's what it is, but I can't see that being offensive... It's quite plainly meant to be surreal humour.

I find them very offensive and totally insensitive to us members of the forums who are Christians.

Ive noticed a huge increase in them over the last couple of weeks, especially in some of the picture threads.
I accept that not everyone shares my beliefs but please have some respect, just please stop posting those sorts of things.

Thanks

Then choose not to be offended then, how on earth people get so worked up over nothing so easily is beyond me really :( , if you believe in christianity then just keep the faith dude, do you think your christain god would be offended by these pictures...................then why should you be ?

In reply to the OP:

How's about no? How's about stopping the major over-reaction, and leaving it at that?

Reminds me of the Religious hatred Bill or whatever it was called, that Rowan Atkinson was opposed to. People have the right to satire things, and if it's in the public forum, as Christianity is, it will be satirised. Trying to say that shouldn't be allowed is utterly bloody ridiculous. I find your religion offensive to my moral values. Therefore don't even mention your religion to me, or in a setting where I might come across you mentioning your religion, EVER. Oh wait, that's a retarded idea, because I have the common sense to not have that kind of stuff take up my life and bug me. It's really not that important.

And to paraphrase part of a Bill Hicks sketch:

I'm sure your God can forgive me for laughing ridiculously loudly at the satire of Christianity. After all, that's one of the major tenets of Christianity is it not?

If God can forgive sins such as murder and adultery cannnot God, an infinitely powerful being understand satire and take joy in such comedy?

However, man who has created such things of great beauty. a creature of great intelligence, cannot he put aside his selfishness to attend to the troubles of another....?

Bloody Carlsberg...

Haha, I don't wanna yank anyones chain here. Belive what you want to believe in. I don't really see why the origional poster made this thread other than to get attention really. There have been some pictures deleted for.. strange reasons. Now I'm not a christian but take the "wallhack" picture for example, I don't actually see any offensive content in that at all. It baffles me how someone can take offense at that but not other things. Like obese people. Theres more offensive fat pictures about but I've not seen them being deleted.

Lets not start a war over this :p

It is, you either believe all of it or none of it, you cant pick and choose with the word of God, the Bible
And the Bible certainly isnt contradictary

Good grief, grow some common sense mate. Seriously, you don't do other christians any favours with your blinkered views.

Who is the better christian, the person who reads the bible cover to cover, takes it at face value - following every sentiment literally (and so persecuting blacks, homosexuals, those of other faiths, people who work on sundays, etc, etc). Or the person who interprets the sentiment of the bible, lives their lives trying to do good by others?

I am a christian, I try to live my life how I think the Lord would want me to, but I also think for myself, and I would be the first to admit that there are parts of the bible which I cannot blindly believe - because they are impossible - but that's not to say that I dismiss the teachings because of this, more I try to interpret the meaning of the teaching.

Spot on, exactly how it should be.

Haha, I hadn't realised the irony of it :p

It actually raises a valid point to those that wish to adhere to every letter of the bible though, here is the actual passage;

21:18. If a man have a stubborn and unruly son, who will not hear the commandments of his father or mother, and being corrected, slighteth obedience:

21:19. They shall take him and bring him to the ancients of the city, and to the gate of judgment,

21:20. And shall say to them: This our son is rebellious and stubborn, he slighteth hearing our admonitions, he giveth himself to revelling, and to debauchery and banquetings:

21:21. The people of the city shall stone him: and he shall die, that you may take away the evil out of the midst of you, and all Israel hearing it may be afraid.

Bonkers isn't it?

Sorry Squark, but I couldn't let that one by.

The Bible, as it stands now, is riddled with contradictions. It couldn't hope to be anything but contradictory, considering how it was pieced together in the first place and translated imperfectly since. Let's look at the story of creation for a second, apologies if I get it wrong as I'm going from memory (been a loooooong time since I had the occasion to read a Bible).

Account of Creation in Genesis 1:

"And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creep upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, let us make man in our image"

Account of Creation in Genesis 2:

"And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone....And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was the name"

So which order did creation happen in really then? Animals then man, or man then animals? And if something as fundamental as the beginnings of history is contradictory in the Bible then what are the chances that the rest of it has absolutely no contradictions?

By all means, take the lessons that are given in the Bible and learn from them, but don't take every single word as the truth or you'll tie yourself in knots.

Oooh who would have thought the Bible condoned stoning of people eh??:p

I think people assume most people are christian, or nothing and hence don't care about putting pictures up of jesus (because they don't care themselves). Im suprised the OP is only 21 and really is bothered by the pics. I mean... im pretty sure less and less young people care about religion as time goes on.

Islam pics are taking down, because we've seen what happens when pics that offend them are made public. Whereas with christian pics, most christians don't care.
