A8R32-MVP what is it

Sounds like your having a right old time of it raja.

Are you trying to overclock to settings you have run previously on another motherboard or just experimenting with what you have.

Just had another look through [H] review of the board and thought this page might be of interest if you have never read it

Morning all, I've had the opportunity to install the Corairs in a PC at work, unfortunately this PC wouldn't recognise the full amount so I fitted just one. It boots ok and I'm currently running memtest, however this brings on more questions. Why, if the memory is ok, does the A8R32-MVP not post with them installed? Why does it run with the cheap old Kingstons, I played TOCA all afternoon yesterday and it was rock solid. Is it then just worth just RMA'ing the motherboard and not the memory?

Chris

I would say they still have a lot of timing issues to sort out, my system will not boot with all four slots filled ( 4 x 512 ) not evan tried 4 x 1 g

I would rma they both , just for peace of mind ( but the new ones may bet worse )

if you can hold on wait for the next bios release

Hi Lord Edmondand thx,wow that was quick :-)
Do you think I should go for different ram, remember though I'm only using 2 x 1g, or stick with the same, if I were to change, which?
ChrisC

Edit: Just tested the Corsairs in a different PC that recognises the full 2g, again no boot issue, running memtest....

wel i run the 2x 1 gig no problems at all if the mem runs ok in another mb then its ok . bite the bullet RMA the mb as coolasmoo has found out they are not all concieved the same

Hi, bullet bitten :-) motherboard rma'd and agreed they've to replace, hopefully I'll be up and running again by the end of the week,
Thanks again Lord Edmond

OK, Have been running the board on the New Bios for a few days now. No problems overclocking, stable in all games (BF2, HL2 etc...), and Memory is at 1:1 sitting currently at 530mhz 2.5,4,4,8-1T. I have done a Memtest and WMD and everything seems OK.

I tried my Kingston Hyper X memory and the board did not like this. Could not get it to post past 460mhz even with relaxed timings - yet my old A8N-Sli Deluxe achieved better results?

Sorry not much more to report as everyhing seems great now! Thanks again guys for all your help on this board.

Cheers!

"Hi Phil
I can confirm that you can indeed install an X-Fi and Crossfire setup. I have done (see sig) and even installed a wireless pci card too. It's a tight fit but it's ok"
Thanks for the information DaftVader.
Regards
Phil

Am I the only one with overclocking problems?

Well im up to the limit of my FX55 2.8 - 2.9 really so its no good for me to try and push further.

All i use is the AI N_O_S in Bios

So i cant really be any help to you guys with the overclocking department.

:(

I've tried the 'normal' oc of 300 HT but also running 280 HT. That is with 1:1 and with the ram right down at 133mhz divider and very slack timings.

No point trying much lower as I want to get the chip running 2.8 minimum (it can do 3.0GHz quite easily).

One thing I have found with this board is that it is picky in the way you do your overclock - does that even make sense???

Although I know what my CPU, RAM etc can do I cant just go and set this in the BIOS - as it wont post. Dont know why. I found this out when I was mucking about with my HyperX and Mushkin Ram.

I start with by setting all overclock options etc to Auto, and boot my computer.

Then I start upping my CPU Freq by 10mhz. I have my CPU Multi at max which on mine is x9. After each increment I boot my computer.

Once I get to a level I am happy with (265mhz at the moment) I then up my HTT Freq. Normally this has reverted back to 400Mhz. I then up this one stage at a time until I hit 1Ghz. However if you are Oc'ing more than me I would possibly look towards 800mhz. Again booting on each change...

Once happy with my HTT Freq I then up my Ram. It usually is back at 166mhz. I up this again 1 stage at a time until I am happy. Booting on each change. Then I tight up the timings, again rebooting after each change until I am satisfied.

I have found this the easiest way for me to overclock, and it seems to work. I am sure you know how to overclock, just thought I would give you my input and experience and hope it helps. It seems that if you do little things each time it works fine. If I was to just set my CPU Freq to 265, My HTT Freq to 1Ghz and my RAM to 200Mhz it would not boot! Yet it does when I do it this way. Strange...Yep...but once its done theres no need to do it again!

Hope that makes sense? Have you tried it this way?

Hmm it was all going to plan until I hit a wall at 280 HT. Tried adjusting voltage etc past this but no joy. Currenting stress testing @ 280 to check this is 100% stable..

Yeah - I get stability problems past 280-285, which is why I am not pushing it anymore than it is - even though I had it more on my Asus A8n-Sli Deluxe.

When I get up to these speeds it does post but Windows seems to corrupt, and from there its a nightmare! Have not tried on the new BIOS mind you but I am content for the now...

280mhz is certainly not bad though - just not as good as we all expeceted I think...atleast the FSB can be run at 5x!

I have the same "reboot issue" Raja has.. Weird really, as long as I dont set my fsb above 228..it will reboot from the bios, if I goto 230 I have to hardboot. and it gives me the overclock failed screen..

Leads to my question..

I have my cpu mult at 10 (12 is stock)
My mem 133
my HTT 600

But it wont allow me to get above 228..... Am I missing something? What voltage do I adjust to get it higher?
