A8R32-MVP what is it

My first board had more issues than the current one, I have not had any real issues with this board.

My suggestion to forwards the info to Asus was more geared towards helping everyone, people will still purchase the board in the future, if those issues can be bought to attention now, it could save people from trouble later.

I am still working with people on this board even though my issues are sorted, I agree these issues should not have been here in the first place, but the only way to move forwards is to try and present the information to the relevant people.

That's the way the intial problems were fixed for most of us, it wasn't all about the postings we made here, the postings we made to the right people got the results, and this forum helped gain support.

Unfortunatley Moboard manufacturers insist on nda's, so information is always a little scarce, before anything real happens.

Chris, if your present board has the ram noise, you have grounds for an rma, I returned mine to another vendor, and got a response quite quickly, if you're not going for a refund an exchange should be quite easy.

Hi, no raja it hasn't the ram noise, sorry but it now has a different set of issues, ie. The device, \Device\Scsi\m52881, did not respond within the timeout period Never had this before, going to try another install but using the drivers from the CD instead of the latest ones to see if that works. No eason, though, why we should be the ones who are providing 'testing' feedback, if you get my drift...

Hi Nystylin74, not sure if I'm the one you should be asking as I seem to the one with the most issues, perhaps raja has the more sensible view. The mobbo is stable enough, it's just that something else is cropping up eveytime I do something, or something doesn't work quite the way it should. That's my experiences, other people have had more postive ones.

I'd still like to know if anyone has run the ATI adaptive overclocking ok?

I'm running a full scan of my drives just before I re-install again, just to be on the safe side. However when I booted up the PC the error message wasn't there, go figure...

See, I'm not going to be doing any OCing. I just want to use the 2 cards I have. I think the hardware that I've bought is fast enough, no need to OC. But in that case anyone think with the setup that I posted above, you think I might run into any hiccups if it's running at default? Not very knowledgeable with ocing and many settings in the BIOS; So, I've read about 2T settings and 1T settings, See, I don't know about those things. I know how to put it together set the AGP aperture size to the same about of your total GPU so in this case it would be 1024 and set boot up sequence and date and time and Ram timings which people help me with and research on the ram builders website.
LOL so, anything else I need to know?

If not overclocking you could pick up a tried and tested rd480 board, either Sapphire or Asus and they're cheap. The performance is only about 100 points differnt in 3dmark scores at most resolutions.

ATM my board works fine, so I would recommend the board, especially when not overclocking, I can still overclock quite well with my dual core cpu. The next bios should allow for higher/more stable overclocks anyway.

Well, I did read up on the ATI 3200 chipset and did find out that it is better thatn the 200, so I say whynot. So, I guess everyone is now telling me that the A8R32-MVP is now the way to go, Eh... wost case senario, I'll be buying the Sapphire RD580 board they're commin out with in 2 weeks, and seel the ASUS. Now all I need is to get rid of the girlfriend and spend some time with my new comming baby. ;)

Pauses with DVDs or CDs

When I use the P-ATA connections on the motherboard with any of the 2 DVD drives and/or 2 DVD burners that I have, the drive will read then stop and read then stop and everything freezes when it stops reading even the mouse can’t move when this happens. I have tried different cables and setting the drive as master, slave and cable select. Also, all drives are set to DMA mode 4.

This only happens with large file transfers from DVD or CD not from HD to HD. So far I have not noticed any pauses while burning discs, thankfully.

I found this issue when installing large games that come on multiple discs like Doom 3 and Age of Empires III. On my old system I could place each of the three discs in it’s own drive and start the install and it would move through each disc with out stopping. I found that on the A8R32 I get random pauses. It was not every drive or a particular disc. It kept happing on disc two of AgeIII so I put disc one into that drive and it happened on the first disc. I thought it had to do with that drive being on channel 2 of the P-ATA controller but after using just two drives on channel 1 it happened again.

Sometimes just after a pause the sound card will continually generate popups stating that I have plugged in something new in one of the jacks. After the copy the sound card would be all messed up and I’d have to reconfigure what was plugged into each jack.

I spoke to ASUS (as they to not reply to emails) and they just said to try a different Motherboard or different RAM. Oh, I’ll just pull another one out of my… Aren’t they supposed to test this kind of stuff for me?

I’m sure it could just be my board but the issue seems much like the random spikes in the HD benchmarks and the pauses in many games before the 0311 BIOS came out.

I guess I’ll have top RMA the board but my guess is that the new board will do the same thing. :(

Hi and welcome

It would seem another bad batch has surfaced , I am very puzzeled with the ramdome erros these mb produce

chrisc has has the full spectrum , raj has a board that is 95% as is coolasmoo mine is ok . others claim to have a racing rattle snake of a mb evan with the 201 bios.

its all very strange , and mutch to variable , all of use have a ati gfx ( x1900xtx ) a mix of single core and duel core, and not least ram ( to me the biggest single variable ) .

but after all that there does not seem to be a definate answer as to what works and what does not.

I am hopefull that the horizon ( ;) Raja ) is not to far off and the new bios will settle things down

a while ago someone on another forum highlighted that 0311 was a quick fix for the graphics issues. So it's logical that a more complete bios should be available soon. :)

Hey Tanquen, you posted on either Sapphier forums or Driver Heaven right, I remember this post from somewhere.... Man, I think it's the batch you got, cause I remember reading in other threads about the same problem, but it's very scarse. Not that many did that...Hmmmm

I doubt whether many people use the configuration that Tanquen has, hence the reason it's scarce. Can't really suggest anything other than to either rma it, or sit tight in anticipation of a new bios fix...............

I was having some bad issues with crossfire, it turns out i can only run one version of the Uli drivers, Dated 21/11/2005 version 1.0.5.2

Anything higher and crossfire blackscreens on any game and reboots the PC

I have noticed that the Uli driver that does work fine is not WHQL so im baffled as to why a certified updated driver is causing this

Well i had to in my case and i tried from a fresh install just to make sure it wasnt anything else.

Although you can guarantee that Raja or Lordedmond are running the latest fine with crossfire.

One thing i would like to add is that the games i was having problems with were all DirectX based. all the openGL games i tried were fine.

So in my case it suggests that there is a conflict with Catalyst 6.2/6.3 and the later uli Drivers

I'm using 1.05.08 dated 23/12/2005, I have had the issues that you mention at certain points but I'm not sure if it was down to the uli drivers, but ever since I uninstalled the ati drivers and reinstalled I've had no problems. Something I mentioned before was that certain things can affect the ati drivers, but I just usually clean and reinstall and they are fine. I have not had any recent problems......

Nystylin is am using an amd 4800 X2, 2 1900's in crossfire and 2 gig of corsair 3500LL pro. No real problems to report with this setup. I am also using the onboard lan for my internet connection and it works fine for me....

Dunno about them being 'hosed', my raid array shows a steady transfer of over 100mb per second with 278mb burst rates in hd tach, the graph is pretty flat too.
