A8R32-MVP what is it

Hi,

I have not experienced any graphics corruption with my board. I set the fsb to 220 with a x12 multiplier for an easy overclock of my x2 4800+, with a core voltage of around 1.45, the voltage is more stable than the a8r-mvp. I can't get any higher with the fsb and multiplier at this setting fro the ram cas 2.0 or 2.5 (both at 1T). Have not tried cas 3.0, memory is corsair 3500LL pro.

Only thing is there is some kind of data transfer noise from the ram/cpu itself,
I can hear it perfectly in time with the led lights on the corsair ram, even when the hard drive is idle.

I don't remember this with the a8r-mvp.

Even scrolling a web page up and down makes a high frequency sound, weird...........

I can live with it though...........

Thanks
Raja

Nice one , can you tell me which corsair ram you are running and is it 1 gig or 2, and have you the game pacific fighters or counterstrike source just out of interest i was wondered how it might perform after say 5 mins of game time

Hi,

I have 2 gig of ram, I've just relaxed the timings (still at 1T) 2.5-3-3-8, with a fsb of 225 and 12x multiplier to give 2.71ghz. Just need to see if it's stable now, and prime 95 is running in the background.

Unfortunatley I have neither of the games you mention, I have far cry and that seems to run fine. I have a demo of n4smw too and that runs ok, I'll try a little more instesive game setion and see how it goes.

If I can get this stable at his speed that's great on air @1.45 volts.........

Thanks
Raja

OK, I have one of these boards aswell now - my pre-order came today (not from overclockers).

Everything was easy to install and all is running fine.

PC Probe II is working fine also.

I have started to overclock but the BIOS keeps downing my settings - Memory and HTT??? Certainly not as staright forward as my previous Asus board. Not sure of it yet - but I suppose I just need to keep tinkering...

Ill keep you posted.

Hi, any of you guys who have already got the board know which of the lan ports is on the PCi-x?
Cheers,
Chris

Hi,

Yeah knock the htt down to 600 to start. I can get cas 2-3-2-6 at fsb 220 @ 1.45. Going over this is tricky with the multiplier at 12. I reckon to get stable at 2.7ghz I need to set the core up at 1.5v and 2.5-3-3-8. Don't know if I want to go that high on air........

Thanks

OK this is a really weird board...compared to my A8N-SLi Deluxe.

Im really not sure about the overclocking on this board?
I had the CPU Freq at 265, CPU Multi at x9, HT Link Speed at 600, Memory at 200 (oc'ed to 265 2.5-4-4-8) and all worked ok.

So then upped CPU Freq to 270 and my computer would not start. So I had to restart and go back into BIOS. I then set it back to 265 and again, no start. Then 260,255,250 until it started up at 240???

I dont get it - and have just left it for the night. Anyone see anything I may be doing wrong? I take it HT Link Speed is similar to HTT Multi. How do I work out what my FSB is? I thought this board would be a great Overclocker...but it seems my old Asus NF4 board was better so far. I had my CPU Freq at 280(x9), Memory at 560 and FSB at 3x Multi and was perfectly stable!

Ill keep trying, just think im maybe just a bit of a novice at this!

HI Andyr,

I've noticed that my graphics go fuzzy when the playing far cry when the computer is warmed up, eventually I get the blue screen and a reset.

I am going to try setting the north bridge manually or disabled, and also leave south bridge disabled. Strangley enough pc probe shows my 3.3v at 4.08 volts....

Thanks

guys i'm gonna be getting an x1900xt and i was looking a dfi board for overclocking (the lower end one as i don't need sli or crossfire) would i be better off with this board instead?

imo the anandtech review is useless as there is no benchie for an x1900xt in a nforce 4 board to compare it to the one with the ati chipset

My A8R32-MVP + 1900 XTX come today, so expect benchmarks etc this evening :)

Looking forward to seeing those :)

I have the card on preorder from OC too, but only since a couple of days ago. Seems they're out of stock already and don't know when the next batch will arrive. Oh well, fingers crossed it'll be soon!

THG have this: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/03/02/ati_crossfire_xpress_3200_chipset_takes_off/ up today, which compares the board. It doesn't seem to have faired quite so well this time.

I'm having the same problems. This mobo is messing with my head. :p
ATM I'm running my X2 3800+ at 2.6 GHz, 10x260 with HT 1GHz. I don't wan't to mess with it anymore. I thought i fried the bios earlier today, but after 10 reboots it woke up. :)

Anything over 300 MHz HT is impossible, even if i set the RAM to 133 MHz. :(

Hi,

apparently, there is a bios coming out that allows over 300fsb, I saw a post over on xtremesystems, so it should be around soon....

My concerns are still with the graphics problem I'm having when things start to get hot, fuzzy black and white followed by a blue screen and system reset......

I wonder if like andy I've got a board that's too early, though that should not be the case as it was shipped on monday this week, so was official release stock.

Thanks
Raja

from that review

"**A point to take note however, the HTT overclocking on this board via the BIOS is a little buggy. You cannot hit on the high HTT in excess of 220MHz on first boot up. You need to first boot up at below 220MHz HTT, set it to 220MHz HTT and then to 230MHz HTT, and so on. Once you turn off the system, booting up at your last saved high HTT configuration will result in no boot and a repower up produces a screen indicating that your overclock has failed. You will need to redo the steps over again. This is very irritating. Hopefully, ASUS can get this issue ironed out in future BIOSes. I suspect it has to do with the board booting up at 5x HTT multiplier at every first power up regardless of the Hyper Transport Frequency set."

This is completely true. I hate this board so far! Just when you are starting to get a good overclock it wont boot! You then have to restart all over again! The system wont even boot on a 20% AI Overclock.

I think this baord will get sent back and Ill stick to NF4. For the extra performance increase, and the amount of stress this board causes I dont think its worth it! Save you cash until more BIOS updates are available.
