Doesn't a woman's body shut down in cases of legitimate rape, so there can be no pregnancy due to that?

I think that's what Todd Akin said, congressman and member of the committee on Science, Space and Technology. He must know better.

sarcasm aside, a woman should be allowed to abort a baby as long as it has not passed the stage where it could be delivered and survive.

Cant really see the difference, kill a baby at 3 months or at 8 months. End result = "You've robbed the child of a life".

I agree.

But who cares? The baby that would have been does not, nor does the mother.

She tried to get an abortion at the time but was over the legal 24-week limit.

Not only that but there can be good reasons to abort at late stages too. If the mothers life is at risk for example.

I don't think being rational on the mother's part really comes into it.

Do you think she should be forced to bring up a child that was forced on her by an attacker? What about her partner, should he be forced to bring up a child that isn't his and was forced on his partner?

Well of course, but at 39 weeks that is not grey at all! I mean, this case is pretty clear on the 'legality' of the abortion.

Well, how about we force you to look after a child for 9 months (let alone actually bear it inside you). You wouldn't like that and you would disagree.

The whole point hinges on when do you consider it to be a baby. If you feel that a 1 week old fetus is a baby then you wouldn't agree with abortion even if it was rape because you'd see it as killing a person. If you think though that a 1 week old fetus is not a human yet then you would presumably concede to getting rid of it as it's not a person but a collection of cells who are dependent on X and X alone to survive.
