Abbortion

I don't think being rational on the mother's part really comes into it.

Do you think she should be forced to bring up a child that was forced on her by an attacker? What about her partner, should he be forced to bring up a child that isn't his and was forced on his partner?

She could put up the child for adoption, in my eyes the child is still a beautiful child regardless of how it was brought into this world.

The child would still be the partners child, regardless if it is not his biological child.

I guess its easy to say that over a computer screen with never experiencing such, so i would have to reserve judgement.

Well, how about we force you to look after a child for 9 months (let alone actually bear it inside you). You wouldn't like that and you would disagree.

The whole point hinges on when do you consider it to be a baby. If you feel that a 1 week old fetus is a baby then you wouldn't agree with abortion even if it was rape because you'd see it as killing a person. If you think though that a 1 week old fetus is not a human yet then you would presumably concede to getting rid of it as it's not a person but a collection of cells who are dependent on X and X alone to survive.

I would see it as a blessing from a horrid situation. "bear it" its still a child regardless of how it was concieved.

Exactly that. The fact she's being forced to live in a cage because of an opinion.

Pardon? This murderer has deservedly gone to jail. She hasn't gone to jail because of an opinion, she has gone to jail for a cold blooded approach to a heartless act.

I have experience in bringing up another man's child (man used loosely here), but I don't think I could do it having had my partner go through a rape attack, have to carry the child to term and have to bring it up.

Gilly, nail, head.

Equally, I wouldn't want my partner to go through nine months of pregnancy and then give the baby up for adoption. It's not fair on the mother or the child.

I'm 'pro choice' but it's quite clear this goes beyond your usual abortion discussion.

I dont know, i would like to think i would always see that baby for what it is, a beautiful innocent child.

The sheer amount of work that goes into bearing a child is enormous. I had always underestimated it through not having seen it myself. Now I have, first hand, and had to support her throughout, it puts a whole new spin on it.

I've always been pro choice anyway. It's the only logical approach.

True, but the baby would in essence, be a living reminder that your wife was raped, every time you look at it.

Even though it's not the childs fault, you can't escape that.

You're right, that's not opinion, it's objective truth...

People, like you, who support putting a peaceful person in a cage because of something she did to her own body, hope to achieve what exactly? It's just knee-jerk, revenge seeking nonsense... and there's not even a victim - Do you think the 'baby' cares?

A baby that close to completion, how do you know the baby didn't experience agony? How can you say there is no victim?

Do you think someone who is murdered would care that their life was stolen from them?

The baby didn't have a chance to care.

By your reasoning can I kill the person next to me because he wont care?

Does this mean I have to stop sorting myself out or will my tissue be taken away as evidence of multiple homicide. :(
