In the paper today.

Lady apparently takes a pill (which she ordered online) 40 weeks into her pregnancy.

Judge sends her to jail for murder iirc and then goes onto say something like "You've robbed the child of a life".

Mrs Catt, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, was sentenced at Leeds crown court following her guilty plea in July to procuring her own miscarriage.
The 35-year-old had bought drugs on the internet that induced her labour when her pregnancy was nearly full-term.
At first she claimed the boy was stillborn and that she buried his body but no evidence of this was ever found, the court heard.
The married mother-of-two discovered she was pregnant in 2009 and believed the child was the result of an affair she had.
She tried to get an abortion at the time but was over the legal 24-week limit.
This led to Mrs Catt ordering a drug on the internet from a company in Mumbai, India, which she is then believed to have taken when she was nearly 40 weeks pregnant.

Lets start this again.

As I mentioned earlier I found the Judges statement (the one regarding the robbing of life) weird. Simply because, if the mother had a legal abortion a life would've still been taken / robbed.

I'm neither 100% for or against abortion. What grinds my gears is what the judge said...... That is all.

A British mother of two has been sentenced to eight years in prison for aborting a baby at full term, a child conceived during a longtime extramarital affair, according to news reports from London.

Sarah Catt, 35, of North Yorkshire, pleaded guilty in July to administering a poison with intent to procure a miscarriage in May 2010 at 39 weeks, a week before her due date, the BBC says. She initially said she had had a legal abortion, then claimed she delivered the still-born boy and buried him. She would not reveal where the infant was buried, and authorities became suspicious after the birth was not recorded weeks later.

Police searching her computer discovered she had bought a labor-inducing drug over the Internet from a company in India after learning she had passed the 24-week mark for having a legal abortion.

Previously, Catt gave up a baby for adoption in 1999, had an abortion with her husband's consent, missed the deadline for a legal abortion and later concealed a pregnancy from her husband until just before giving birth.

In 2009, she then became pregnant while having a seven-year affair with a co-worker, The Telegraph reports. Catt's husband was not aware of the pregnancy and was not consulted about the abortion, testimony revealed.

The Leeds Crown Court judge said Catt would have been charged with murder had she acted days later and killed the infant after inducing labor.

"What you did was end the life of a child that was capable of being born alive by inducing birth or miscarriage," the judge told Catt, who showed no emotion during the hour-long sentencing hearing. "What you have done is rob an apparently healthy child, vulnerable and defenseless, of the life which he was about to commence."

Chief Inspector Kerrin Smith, who led the investigation, said after today's sentencing that Catt had proved to be "more than capable of being extremely deceitful in her actions."

"Catt has proved to be cold and calculating and has shown no remorse or given an explanation for what she did," he said.

And your points is?

And your opinion?

I read this on the BBC news website yesterday. Abortion within the legal window is one thing, but full term? The lady is wrong in the head. She's had abortions before (or maybe one?) from what I remember.

I can't see how anything other than murder is the right sentence really.

Out of marital affair. I really don't condone her actions at all. I do believe in informed choice and abortion, but this was just wrong.

abortion at any stage in pregnancy is murder - regardless if it is 40 weeks or 4 days!!!

The force is strong with this one.

OP - typically what happens is that you post a terrible link to the DM and offer no opinion, never to return to your own thread. You've gone a bit off-piste and talked about a thing you might have read but without providing a link and ... it doesn't feel right :(

Is that first of all she is nuts.

Second of all I found the Judge's statement rather strange... "Robbed a child...". Abortion is Abortion.... The life wouldve been "Robbed" regardless.
