That's the 2nd time I've heard "old white men" being blamed. Christ it takes 10 seconds to look who sits on the Supreme Court. Sigh....
You'll also notice that leftists have been going crazy racist about Clarence Thomas all because he's a conservative black man. I think my favourite was George Takai calling him a blackface clown on CNN (no surprise though, everyone knows Asians are full on racists).

Yep its similar for other black conservatives. Larry Elder, Thomas Sowell, Jesse Peterson, Coleman Hughes, Glenn Loury, John McWhorter etc. that dare to stray from the path.

It's not even made up of all men. There are 4 women who are current members of the SC.

Interesting to know that birthrates are rapidly declining amoung liberal/left leaning people, while they remain fairly static amoung the christian/catholic families. Suffice to say in a few generations time this entire argument may well be completely irrelevant as society shifts more to the conservative/christian values.

Whats to say that within my lifetime America hasn't split entirely with the country being divided East and West vs the Central Belt.
Perhaps, but just because the parents are religious doesn't mean the children will be. Look at what happened in this country in the 20th century, churches full to mostly empty within a couple of generations.

How do you explain the falling numbers of people who call themselves religious and a rise in those who call themselves agnostic or atheist? America and England were far more religious in the past, following your logic they would both be just as religious today but they aren't.
The problem in America is the Republican Party has now fully embraced religious extremism, even those who might not have religious beliefs but are just conservative now have to behave like they are religious fundamentalists to get elected. The irony being that Trump is clearly an atheist, the only "god" he believes in is himself. yet they treated him like the second coming of Christ. Seem to remember something about “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image".

Reality is irrelevant to people who are particularly devout in their irrational prejudices. Some blame jews for everything, some blame "whites" for everything, some blame "males" for everything, some blame homosexuals for everything, some blame people of the "wrong" age for everything. Etc, etc, sadly.

The "logic" is clear to the devoutly irrationally prejudiced:

Premise: <insert unchosen group identity here> is wrong and bad and inferior and the cause of everything bad.
Premise: <insert thing here> is bad.
Conclusion: <insert unchosen group identity here> is the cause of <insert thing here>.

Not the first time I've heard the "it's old white men given to much power thing" except they have literally done the opposite they don't want to make that decision, they have instead left it up to the voters to decide. Your also correct about the SC make up, it's 4 white men, 4 white women and 1 black man.

please tell me this was a dry sense of humour......

I don't think that its because he's a conservative black man, he's also a religious extremist and lets not forget his wife played a major part in the January 6th insurrection and Trump's attempt to overthrow the election and he was the only dissenting vote to Trump's failed attempt to block documents being turned over to Jan6th Committee.
He is the most right wing justice on the court and its most ardent "originalist" which seems to stand in contrast to the fact he's black and in 1788 he was considered to have the worth of a 3/5 of a man in a Constitution that supported slavery. He has voted against criminal justice reform yet was a black nationalist activist in the 1960/70s. Then he is the only vote against cross burning as 1st amendment protected speech. He seems to be voting for himself and his own agenda. You can understand how a lot of African Americans feel let down by him.

It is now but historically its been white men. Just 5 women in its entire history, about to be 6 and only 3 persons of colour, about to be 4. As an institution its been the definition of old white men.

It is in desperate need of reform, they should introduce term limits so every presidential term gets to appoint 1 justice and its far too political. Congress should be legislating, it isn't doing its job. You only have to see how important SC appointments are to elections to know that its a political office when it shouldn't be.

It's interesting how appointments to the supreme court are problematic when trump got 2 conservative judges nominated in but when Obama appointed 2 it was fine..

It's interesting when you realise that Mitch basically made up a rule "you can't appoint a judge in an election year" to stop Obama even getting to nominate one, then ignored that and confirmed a judge in something like a week (which I believe is incredibly fast) a month before the election...

Almost like Mitch was being a total hypocrite and making it up to suit his agenda.

And that's relevent to klincks 'no president should get to nominate more than one justice per term' how exactly?

(Obama's were both in his 1st term)

Perhaps those African Americans who feel let down shouldn’t try to feel connected to someone purely because they share a physical trait… especially when it comes to politics and faith, which have nothing to do with your skin colour as much as they’d like you to believe it. “Black people should vote this party”, “women should vote for this party”, “<x> people should behave and think a certain way”.

What an awful way to view people. Not as individuals but as members of blobs that you expect to act a certain way.

Did I say its only a problem when Republicans get to appoint justices? Also Trump appointed 3 judges, not 2 and in all one term that has left the court with a super majority to one party. So if it were 1 judge per term, Obama would have got 2 and Trump 1.

Yeah I forgot about gorsuch, maybe scalia and Ginsberg should have retired like they were asked to do during Obama's years :)

Given that the black community has historically voted Democrat (despite the party doing nothing for them) can you blame them for lumping them into one big unit? Given that black women are far and away the biggest demographic of abortion user (receivers?) they should be cheering roe being overturned, think of all those democratic voters that will now be born..

All the judges appointed by Trump were appointed because they are Christians, arguably fundamentalist Christians and would overturn Roe. They were appointed as they all think the same, they had to think that way or they'd never have been nominated.

This is America we are talking about, which in its very recent history still had segregation and blacks were effectively second class citizens in many states. Do you think skin colour matters in South African politics? Why would it be any different in the US? Skin colour shouldn't matter, I would hope it doesn't matter that much in the UK anymore, though I doubt the population would vote for a black PM but the US isn't the UK. It mattered when Obama was elected, it mattered for the black population and it mattered for a lot of the white population, for some that maybe America really was moving on, for others there was disgust that a ***** was president.
If the GOP wants more black people to vote for it maybe they should put more blacks up for elections and change their policies to include them. Just 8 members of the House since the end of segregation in the Republican Party and only 2 Senators. Its not a great record is it. If you think skin colour doesn't matter over there you aren't living in reality.

Fed up of hearing ‘the black community’, ‘lgbt community’ etc. do they all live in one neighbourhood together?

Load of rubbish. It’s just some language sugarcoating which, with the 2 examples above, translates to ‘the blacks’ and ‘the queers’. But if we stick community at the end of it, it sounds less prejudicial, and yet it is.

Stop treating people as part of a homogenous blobs and as individuals.

Scalia was Republican and a very conservative one at that, why would he step down during Obama's terms? Ginsberg could have stepped down before Jan 2015, after that what makes you think Mitch would have allowed a nomination to go through? He blocked Obama's nomination in 2016 with some bull**** excuse that no basis in the Constitution. The Dems had to do away with the filibuster rule to get lower federal judges appointed to Appeals Court as Mitch just kept blocking them with the filibuster. The GOP are playing by different rules. Its time the Dems woke up to this fact and stopped playing nice. They should ditch the filibuster and pass legislation protecting abortion rights and while they are at it, gay marriage rights and contraception, as the SC will come for those soon enough.
