About the MM

I kept reading about the MM and I really wanted to be involved.

I was nearly there at 250 posts then the rules changed to 1000, I tried not to spam the forum but indirectly I did post sometimes for the sake of it. It took me over 9 months to go from 250 to 1000 lol.

Manged to get MM access and do not even look at it often lol.

We shall have to lurk less I guess.

Then again, there are so many high post count people posting nonsense or single line replies, I'd hardly call that contributing.

If we changed the rules to accommodate your wants and needs, we would have to do it for everyone, which isn't going to happen.

Long term members contribute to the forums, 255 posts over 8 years? thats nothing.

As could lots of other people, but it's just not going to happen, the Members market is a forum perk in place solely for the benefit of regular users who contribute to these boards.

The rules are set for a reason, 3 years membership means nothing, I could create an account right now, and leave it 3 years and presto, instant access? Not likely. RE; see above ;)

It's not just about spamming, 255 posts over 8 years, again is nothing, granted you're not spamming, but you're not even contributing, 255 posts for a regular member is accrued over 2 weeks to a month, maybe even faster than that If they are very good.

All that really needs to be said on the matter. Oh, and normally we pick up on the spammers solely here to boost post count and they get their post count reset ;)

The MM is privilege and a way of rewarding regular members who contribute to the community. Since you joined in 2005 you made 255 odd posts so that hardly qualifies you. It's immediately apparent that your sudden interest in the forums is that you have stuff to sell and that alone else you would have been a regular since you joined.

There has been a drop in disputes since the changes have been introduced as member value their access right more.

Fully support the dons here, they are providing a means to do so on their discretion on the forums.

The Members Market works best when there are more people able to access it. That said, let anyone join and sell and the more scammers you'll have. However, with the criteria to access the MM area as high as it is, the numbers able to access it will eventually dwindle and make it pointless to use it. I think a way of helping this is allowing a lower entry criteria to buy from the MM.

For example:

From 6 months and 250 posts and you can then buy from the members market but only reply to posts in the For Sale sections, not in Wanted/Trades and you cannot post new threads in any section of it.

Then, using the current criteria, you can then be upgraded and allowed to sell.

I'm sure people will pick holes in this but in truth you're never going to be completely free of scammers in the internet, matter what restrictions you put in place. :)

Whilst you make a valid point, currently the MM is thriving with for sale/wanted threads. Its unlikely that members with MM access will dwindle to the point that no-one will use it.

I don't see why you should benefit from a forum which you don't contribute to.
I wouldn't have put it quite like this, but that's about the size of it.

Snipped for space.

It's an option but I don't think that setting the requirements at the current level has caused the numbers who can access it to dwindle - the line drawn will undoubtedly have affected a few people who would have traded perfectly well on the MM yet don't post much but if you are regularly on the forums and posting then 1,000 posts and 6 months isn't a huge hurdle to overcome.

You're right and you'll never fully eradicate scammers but by creating a reasonably high bar and encouraging an emotional investment in the forums (not to mention the time taken to post enough) then it means people are less likely to abuse the privilege. Some will try to cheat others and that's a shame but if you were simply to allow access based on time "served" then it would be quite easy to register an account, leave it dormant for the requisite period and then start scamming away. I don't know the stats but I believe that the instances of people scamming has become less after the higher requirements were implemented.

To be honest I wouldn't call your pointless posts "contributions" to the forum either.

People like you are a reason other people don't come onto forums like this as much, the inside cliquey bs grates on people.

Thems be fightin words lad. Do you have the sword arm to match?

On the forum I run, people complained when we set the limit to 20 posts for access :)

I got the same from members of a forum I ran. In the interests of democracy I removed the limit and instructed the moderator NOT to touch the classifieds section. Within a month people were complaining about scammers/spammers in the classifieds section and requesting the return of the post limit, which like yours was only set at 20 posts.

I also find it funny when people complain when a SERVICE they're USING for FREE makes minor changes that they don't like or doesn't make changes they want because it's not needed/viable.

Like for instance I like using the black theme and it was suggested that OcUK make it an official theme so users could choose either black or blue.

OcUK didn't want to do it so I continue to use Stylish for the black theme rather than bawling like a 6yr old because I didn't get my way.

i like the high post count, as im sure all those with access do.. more posts means you value your access to the forum and are less likely to scam

as was said earlier if this has indeed lowered the dispute rate, that can only be a good thing

200 posts over 8 years may mean you dont value the forum much and could potentially scam
