Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2012, Yas Marina - Race 18/20

I don't fully understand all the hate for Vettel because he had some good fortune today. This has happened to other drivers in the past but generally been ignored, but as it's the guy everyone on here loves to hate just because he's been the fastest driver in the fastest car for 2 years it suddenly becomes a talking point? It's not his fault these things happened during the race, and he's not going to pull into the pits and say "oh dear I've been awfully fortune there chaps, you carry on and I'll try to pass you on the track, pip pip!" is he? These things happen. Get over it.

I didn't say nuffink! :D

Yeah you better not! :p

That wasn't a personal dig btw, just one instance that sticks in my mind!

You're rather missing the point - it's not the fact he's getting good fortune so much - it's when people hold it up as an example of a great drive when really, compared to some of the really great drives from the back of the field, it was more luck than judgement in this case. Those safety cars could have appeared at slightly different times and Vettel ended up 12th or something.

He'll always be a dirty cheating spaniard to me :D

I'd just rather anybody won the WDC than "the finger" so if that means Fred, then so be it :)

So Mclaren sabotaging Lewis' points total so he doesnt finish miles ahead of Jenson at the end of the season has started....:p

Congrats to Kimi and Mark Slade! Was an enjoyable race!

Hamilton had bad luck, Seb had good luck and said **** :)

ps3ud0

oh, and about people not liking hamilton i (being quite neutral in the matter) quite like watching him race and thought he had a very good attitude today with an annoying dnf

i didnt use to like him

You could say Vettel deserved some luck, after what happened to him through no fault of his own in qualifying. Starting from the pit-lane and finishing on the podium is an achievement.

I'm not in agreement with the way he drove "superbly" as some others have stated though, He was lucky his front wing wasn't completed torn off, ironically he's then caught out by the Toro Rosso (similar sort of thing happened between Vettel & Button) whereas Button just barely missed hitting Vettel, this time Vettel goes and hits the meter/drs board. Then he goes and passes another driver off the racing line, gives up the place and then re-passes him.

Pleased for Kimi, he could have and maybe should have won a race before today in that car.

Alonso at his usual best, Ferrari PLEASE give him a better car.. Last but not least is the sorry state of affairs at McLaren, where do you even start with that team?

The race was alright today, was happy to see Kimi get a win, but was not so good the way it happened. Hamilton has made the right choice to try and get into a team that can get their cars the full race distance...

I did not view Vettel's drive as "an amazing recovery", more like extremely fortunate luck. Second safety car at the exact moment he needed, and the first one working quite well for him. Did get a laugh at his moaning radio message re: Ricciardo's warming of the brakes...
Webber should have received a penalty for the Massa incident I thought.
Good to see both Williams in the points.
We still have the drivers championship in play, but I just wish it would be closer on points. :(

Podium interview afterwards... Great stuff from Raikkonen! :D
Alonso did look like he wanted to kill someone though. :|

Not sure if Brundel was being serious, but did anyone hear him say we "always get exciting races at Valencia and Abu Dhabi". :/
