Hopefully he won't have to. Safety car could play a big part, and with Rosberg bound to be risk averse he might end up behind a hard charging Ferrari/RB after a restart, and then the trouble can start.

However, I can actually see Rosberg sitting in third so Hamilton will find it harder to back him up.

Without disruption of some sort, he should be able to just ease out a simple podium really.

Maybe it's my bad memory, but I'd struggle to recall races this year where Lewis has had Nicola ~1 second behind him for a number of laps, then complaining of his tyres going off due to the "bad air" coming off Lewis' car.

I think Lewis needs to stay ahead of Nicola into turn 1, perhaps even letting Ricci Lake go through should the Aussie make a good start on those Supersofts, attempt to prematurely kill Nicola's Ultrasofts and then rely on Max making his Supersofts count before he does some "hammer time."

Maybe it's because I saw a bit more of the practice sessions for this race, but I got the impression Ferrari (and especially Vettel) were a lot more on it for a change, given their pretty mediocre season.

Something tells me there is going to be another twist in the drivers championship in this final race, but whether the twist is enough to prevent Nicola winning the title, we shall see.

Great laps from Hamilton - he's doing everything he can. Unfortunately for him, so is Rosberg. Clear first corner and couple of laps tomorrow and then, barring a mechanical failure or a highly unfortunately timed safety car, Rosberg should take the title.

I'd disagree. Yes, Hamilton is doing all he can, Rosberg, as he has for the past few races, is doing the bare minimum. We could have a pathetic world champion here today lads :(

Spoilers. Correct, I have no respect for Rosberg :p:p:p

I don't mind who is crowned champion, but I do think that Rosberg has been lucky this season and he would be the first person to admit that.

Hopefully we will get a good race today, although on this track it seems unlikely there will be any drama.

I don't think it matters though. Luck is often a huge part in the drivers world championship.

If we're calling mechanical problems luck, then no doubt Kimi would have won a title at McLaren, Webber potentially at RedBull and so on.

No-one thinks Rosberg is better than Hamilton. Probably even he doesn't think he's better.

As for Kimi he's not even the 10th best driver in F1 in the period he's been racing let alone better than Alonso. It's insulting to have that lazy useless waste of talent mentioned in the company of even Button let alone Alonso. He's was good for a small window at mclaren.

Kimi was outstanding at Lotus.

Kimi's problem appears to be that he seems too laid back. Being laid back is fine but go too far and people think you don't give a ****... Kimi also strikes me that he needs a specific car with specific characteristics to get the best out of him. Hence why when he has been the "number 1" driver he seems to have had the better drives.

Great piece on Sky with Damon driving his 96 title winning car round Silverstone, 20 years where does the time go I remember getting up early and watching that like it was yesterday!

So Lewis has had fuel pump change.... I wonder if he will have a mechanical failure today.

Hoping for a good race today, nothing more. Done deal for Red Bull but I'm pretty sure they've been sent out to race hard and it doesn't matter now if the cars get broken. They're certainly not going to be holding off trying for the podium.

Anyone else get the impression all of Rosbergs's interview answers are rehearsed?

Interviewer: "Nico Rosberg, what's your favourite food?"

Nico: "For sure, the car has been great this year. I'm not thinking about Lewis, I mean we have great respect for each other. I'm just concentrating on my race and hopefully everything goes well... for sure."

Hello Christian. Yes, looks like Max and Dan have been sent out to upset everyone :D

So Hamilton has been told not to back rosberg up and if he does then rosberg will get the first pit stop.

sounds fair to me.. why would merc want to compromise their race by having the rbs and ferraris on their gearbox?
