Nothing will change in the FIA's eyes. Even if the appeal goes to CAS.

Thursday nights Gala dinner is the closed book in the FIA eyes. Season has ended, results stand.

Even if CAS overturns the FIA/stewards situation - The FIA are not under any obligation to amend their results.

The FIA International Court of Appeal is the final decision maker. They regulate their own sport....

CAS is the final appeal body for doping infraction in F1, but is not applicable in any other decisions in F1 is my understanding.

Ergo - Nothing changes...

Max was on soft tyres, if he goes to the inside, Max goes outside and easily out accelerates him down the next section of track anyway.

If anything by leaving the inside open early, Hamilton at least had the small chance that he gets a run at him on the second long straight where his engine/aero/slipstream rather than his tyres provide an advantage and maybe leads into the last section which is much harder to pass on.

Meh, well we all know how that turned out.

Yes obviously we do but as shown by the fact he got alongside, that was probably about his best shot at making it to the line in front. If he'd defended hard at the point Max passed, he risked compromising his own exit speed far too much and consequently being nowhere near Max down the main straight and subsequently onto the back straight anyway, giving himself effectively zero chance.

Much in the same way that a race isn't won on Turn 1 or Lap 1 but it can be lost - Lewis couldn't realistically win that lap at that turn but if he compromised his own line/speed too much by defending too hard, he could certainly lose it.

I think they will still go after Masi. Im sure Toto will sleep well at night knowing he won the constructors and that Masi is no longer around.

But yeh not the best look in the world to be going after Max.

While i hope they do and prove a point of him being an incompetent fool i unfortunately imagine they will just drop the whole lot now and move on to next year . I know one thing for sure this sort of rubbish wouldn't of happened under Charlie Whiting control bless him! We are left with an inconsistent / incompetent fool who hasn't got a clue what he is doing and needs to go:mad:

I'm still leaning toward Massi needing to go but at the same time wonder whether it's better to stick with him or putting someone new into the position with no experience

But surely there are other motorsport disciplines that have Race Directors with enough experience? I mean, the WEC Race Director has been in his job for 20 years...

Agreed, he has matured so much over the years and his attitude yesterday was class.
Just makes it all the more damning that the FIA have elected to elevate an angry, bullying, petulant cheating child to the history books alongside his adulterous, whiny team boss. Ugh.

I'm not saying this for funsies, but honestly I don't think someone new to the position could do much worse than Massi. It wasn't just his decisions all season, it was letting himself getting bullied by RB (and Merc to be fair). He was like a substitute teacher with absolutely no authority.

I wonder if in a twist we might hear some radio comms from Karen demanding they get one lap of racing in before the end. That'd make things interesting, politically...

Lol let’s get real these history books are filled with more than one person who fits that description, including Lewis once upon a time.

Respect to Lewis is this is true.

But he must realise it reflects badly on him as well if they go ahead with the appeal.

Yeah seem Lewis requested the 2 original protest to be dropped but Mercedes still put them through , they are now thinking of dropping the appeal all together though . I imagine Lewis wouldn't want too be crowned champion in the courts, not the way its done . bow out gracefully and let them have a tainted Championship win.

They broadcast that live, it's not a twist, it's part of the story already.

They have conveniently left it out of their highlights on YouTube though.

Tainted? lol

If it wasn't for Hamilton and Bottas taking out Max this would have been over before the final race.... Max deserved it.

Depends on how the appeal is done. To overturn the championship it could end up looking bad but as a move to ensure clarity of the regulations to ensure fair competition in the future then that would reflect well on them.

We already have, Horner's radio to Masi were broadcast during the race of Horner saying we only need 1 racing lap.

There's a Sporting Advisory Committee meeting later in the week, which gives the teams an opportunity to give feedback on the issues they've encountered with stewarding and race direction this year.

Tainted 100% , were you watching the same race as everyone else yesterday where Max was handed the win plain and simple , rules were not followed and bent to allow max to be behind Lewis on fresh tyres with 1 lap knowing full well what the outcome would be . He was handed the race win and championship with it as if the rules were followed Lewis would be champion plain and simple.

And it Max hadn't taken them both out at Monza either one of them could have won it before the final race. It works both ways and accidents happen.

If not tainted what would you call the (supposedly) impartial Race Director choosing drama over a fair race for all competitors by making up a rule or, if you accept the FIA's argument, implementing a rule that's never been used before.

I seriously don't get all this nonsense about "oh it wouldnt be right to crown lewis the champion now", "oh it would be bad for the sport", "oh it would reflect badly on Mercedes".

Why? What happened refelcts far more badly on the sport than having them admit their mistake and rectify it.

This wasn't a discretionary call on a track incident or something. This was the race director making up his own rules to put his thumb on the scales and gift Max the win. It was one of the most astonishing things i've seen in any sport. I've never seen the referee just completely make something up and effectively award the championship to a competitor with a completely biased made up ruling.

Why did he feel he needed to act beyond the scope of the rules? He had two options on lap 57...let them race but with the cars lapped in place or, let them unlap themselves and finish the race under the safety car. His concern should not be based on just letting them race or giving any driver a better chance. His concern and responsibility is following the safety car rules. If he had followed the rules he wouldn't have been "influencing" the race at all. Lewis had led the whole race and clearly deserved to and was going to win anyway.

Track incidents/discretionary calls by stewards are completely separate to what happened at the end yesterday.

Conflating them is silly.
