If Mercedes do not protest I have full respect for that. As I think they have a case. Probably would be protesting if it wasn't title 8. And was first Title

At the end of the day it's a sad end of the WDC.
All it would have taken was one more lap to resolve fairly or to not let some cars go.

Such a shame Hamilton couldn't keep max behind him. Although a near impossible ask.
That would have been a fitting end.

I'm really glad I just was f1 for the show as its hardly fair. At least accepting that makes stuff like this much easier to accept.
From my perspective it was damn exciting!

Both sides can argue that "if x happened in a previous race" but the reality was it came down to the last race, winner takes all.

Every prior decision still matters. If we're calling the FIA out then you can't ignore their history of bad calls, which ultimately got us to this point.

Haha, Hamilton fans really shouldn't mention paper champions......considering Hamilton's 6 hollow championships in the dominate Mercedes.. :p
This is bordering on trolling now. You work for Red Bull, so it's clear theres bias but the guy won in a car that his team gave him. Like Schumacher did before, unless he was a paper champion too?

Seriously, you don't have talk some crap.

Imo saying Masi did it to gift Max the win is crap, obvious Lewis fans would say that. Why the hell would Masi favour one driver over another. He did it to stop the race ending under SC conditions. Maybe he made some bad decisions, but hey were all human. Both drivers raced a good race, unfortunately for Lewis the mistakes made by race control at the end meant Max was in a position to pass and win. But that is not Max's fault, under the same circumstances Lewis would have passed Max

Thats Rubbish and you know it. If the rolls reversed you can bet good money it would have ended under the SC...

If he wanted to continue the race and have a final lap without the safety car, then the procedure for that would have been to not let cars unlap themselves.

Instead he only removed the cars between Lewis and Max, meaning Max gets right up behind Lewis, without any pressure from Sainz behind (because the cars between Max and Sainz couldn't unlap themselves)...

There are clear procedures for a safety car for a reason. Masi shockingly just decided to make up his own absurd rule instead.

Doubt its deliberately fixed, its just an incredibly poor decision and effectively gifted the slower driver/poorer car the win.

My thinking too.
Masi wanted to finish that race racing. Unfortunately the decision was almost guaranteed to control the winner of the WDC.

Not an easy decision. What would I have done? I'd have just ended it under safety car. No one could really question that decision..

Or even a red flag. A red flag would have been better than what happened. If Lewis had had soft tyres on too it. Wouldn't have been an issue.

I totally understand wanting to finish under racing conditions. It just unfortunate that decision was critical for the wdc

But he could have had 1 more green flag lap within the rules. The lapped cars would have just had to stay in place though.

Only letting some through is clearly absurd , and not in the rules because it is massively unfair to some of the drivers.

Yes a dominate Mercedes which his team mates also have but often nowhere to be seen when the race gets going , same applies to Max with him always being far ahead of his team mate in the same car .... surely you can understand that these 2 drivers are amongst the best there are currently and this shows when their team mates are in identical cars yet nowhere to be seen most of the time with both being a pit stop ahead over the rest by the end of the race. They are in a different league the pair of them but yesterday Hamilton was the faster of the 2 and deserved the win where as only shot Max had was having it handed to him on a plate by Masi . Max is a very entertaining driver if a little risky but his championship will always be membered as being tainted this year .

Probably the best decision. Again it would have given Hamilton the WDC but he was there on merit.

Max would have obviously binned it trying to get past all those cars.

But yeah I agree it's probably the worst decision he could have made of all of them

It wouldn't have "given" Lewis anything. He was in the lead and led the whole race and clearly deserved to win. Max was nowhere pace wise in comparison.

I've loved the years drama. If the end has to be controversial but we have a season like that? More. Please.

By given I don't mean given at cost of anyone else's. I mean it would have guaranteed the result. Which was his I agree.

Certainly feels weird with all you fans on both sides being completely not bothered about who wins. Years ago I'd have been more angry. But as f1 is so gimmicky I really don't mind this sort of scandal

I would have accepted a Max win if they'd left the lapped cars in situ as they originally said. I happen to think he'd have pulled it off given the tyre advantage and I don't think many people could argue it would have been a champion's drive.

However, to suddenly move them out of the way of Max but prevent Sainz/Riccardo/et al from battling for 2nd/3rd stinks.

Well this thread should probably be closed if it’s true Mercedes won’t appeal any further.

All you’ll get is people repeating the same stuff over and over again from each sides of the camp to the point we will probably go back through 10-15 years of F1 arguing each case.

Over the course of this season I can honestly say Max fully deserves to be the WDC, in fact both of them do but there can only be one. Anyone suggesting either of them don’t is just purely deluded and shallow at this point. You can reference so many controversial decisions over the season but we can be grateful we have witnessed an epic season which came down to the last lap of the last race of the season.

It’s nice to finally see another driver win a WDC and looking forward to even more competition next year. Hopefully it’s more than two teams fighting it out for wins and championships, the last thing we want is one team to dominate again.

FIA need to get their act together, but they have been like this for far too long so who knows.
