I'm still leaning toward Massi needing to go but at the same time wonder whether it's better to stick with him or putting someone new into the position with no experience

Masi (one s) has been groomed for the role, but he's made a real hash of it since he was promoted. This year and last were extremely tough seasons for him, as well, first with the chaos of Covid last year and then with the bitingly close competition this year that has made every decision seem more weighty, but I think he's just not up to the job. I think the solution is to drop him and review the role of race director, dividing it into several roles. The FIA also need to take a long hard look at the rulebook and provide clarity on the overtaking, forcing off track, and gaining an advantage rules.

Of course, no sport will ever be without controversy in interpreting the rules. There are always edge cases and fine lines to be drawn, but F1 at the moment seems to have a real problem of clarity in the rules.

Tainted 100% , were you watching the same race as everyone else yesterday where Max was handed the win plain and simple , rules were not followed and bent to allow max to be behind Lewis on fresh tyres with 1 lap knowing full well what the outcome would be . He was handed the race win and championship with it as if the rules were followed Lewis would be champion plain and simple.
A championship is decided on more than one race. 22 of them actually.

In any normal circumstance i would say yeah but what we watched yesterday was someone get mugged/robbed on live TV . That is not sport and not how a championship should be won .... The race director bending the rules is what won this championship which is sad as otherwise its been an epic season and very exciting to watch but for it to end the way it has is terrible.

I disagree, ever decision has weight on the championship. What if they were harsher on Lewis for crashing Max out in Silverstone? He'd be ahead in points. Every decision has an impact which is why it needs to be consistent.

This last lap thing just had a more direct impact.

The direct impact was the only one that matters in this case.

They engineered spectacle and drama. Like a reality show. Ouch.

As a Hamilton fan, this side-by-side onboard with pit radio of the last lap is hard to watch.

Hamilton needs to be more defensive aggressive in 2022.

I expect that to change next season when they start level on points, the back end of this season he couldn’t risk not finishing the race because he was behind on points so had to avoid contact, next season I expect Lewis will be far more aggressive defending against max and not avoid the contact because they are starting from a level playing field. I expect to see a lot more silverstone type defending from Lewis next season.

Yeah, but on those occasions Max never finished either. You could also say they took each other out... Nobody gained an advantage.

Bit these are racing incidents, caused by the drivers.

Yesterday was something completely different. The race director just made up a completely stupid and biased rule!

The bottom line is.. Masi needs to go and needs to be investigated.. Hes dirty and has been pushed or paid into his actions..

Haha, the sport was always going to be fine...... It's the Mercedes reputation that was at risk.
but in both occasions he tool ham out when ham was leading so he did lose.

Ham should have gained points but he diddnt

Seems like a very biased way of looking at it.... Hamilton was fortunate enough to finish both races where Max had a DNF even though he caused one crash and Bottas the other.

Every prior decision matters. Points were gained and lost throughout the season on inconsistent calls. Either Max or Lewis could have been ahead on points where being 1st in the final race wouldn't have mattered.

Which is still irrelevant.

No one should be talking about luck or racing incidents or discretionary steward calls on racing incidents.

This was something entirely different. This was a race director literally making up an absurd rule on the last lap. One that would gift the title to Max.

You go celebrate the win with your paper champion. Everyone knows apart from a few deluded max fans he was gifted it..

Both sides can argue that "if x happened in a previous race" but the reality was it came down to the last race, winner takes all.

Lewis won the race in Abu Dhabi all day long except he got shafted in what has to be the worst SC restart I've ever seen. The result of which gifted the championship to Max.

If this was the other way around I'm sure we'd all be here debating how it went down too. It was frankly pathetic to do that to either driver going for the championship when they've been saying all weekend they wanted a clean and fair race

I'd liken it to referees in football telling the teams of a World Cup final that they'll give and take a bit when it comes tackling in the first few minutes, because of heightened tensions. Then sending someone off for an innocus foul and giving a penalty in injury time.
