I think the question is, do we want an exciting race, or a boring one?

Exciting - but you can ‘t just throw the rules out to manufacture a great last lap for TV. The reputation of the sport is in tatters.

The biggest issue with the decision Masi made is that he essentially broke the rules and knowingly changed the outcome of the race.

What was the probability of Lewis winning after that? 2%

Completely buggered hard tyres vs completely new soft tyres in cars that are pretty evenly matched. He didn't allow racing to happen, he chose the winner.

It would, it just taints the sport every time. They make it so difficult for new fans to get into the sport. I’m not agreeing with what Masi did, but it just always gets so messy.

Reason Protest by Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team against Car 33, alleged breach of Article 48.8 of the 2021 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

Is this because Max appeared to go past Lewis when they were slowing down behind the safety car?

Whilst still slightly unlucky for Lewis, it would have been within the rules, and Lewis would have atcually had the ability to defend, so yes that would have been fine. If Masi wanted racing/drama at the end, that was the way to do it within the rules.

Its the making up of a new rule that is crazy.

I could be wrong here as I don't know the regulations by hand but isn't a red flag only used when the track becomes unsafe?

At least both teams lose whatever happens. I can’t imagine Merc will be too pleased if it got overturned as they’ll no doubt feel robbed of the win and celebration.
