Accelerator stuck @ 135mph

So what? haha if he turned off the engine he would come to a stop anyway! Also the brakes still work they just required a lot of effort without the servo.

Yeah but since he could not put the shifter into "N" the car would instantly stall when ignition is turned off causing a much more worser accident whilst the transmission flies out everywhere at that sort of speed wouldn't it and since it's an auto there isn't a clutch to ride whilst the car gradually slows down.

you see your the type of person that would keep going at 130mph
the car was automatic, no engine ? no drive to the wheels..
but it will coast safely.

My car? Mine is ment do over 160, I was saying 135 is fast but 150 is over double the limit things just fly past and anycar will become ultra light in the steering.

I did indicated 121 in my Fiesta before and wasnt scared of the speed, scared of being caught but that was it.

From the Times:

Mr Nicolle, 25, bought his BMW318 in April. “Some people spend money on themselves,” he told The Times. “All my money goes on my car.”

What Car price implies 'all his money' was £3000.

And he was from Portsmouth...

I am amazed there are so many people on this forum with driving licenses who wouldn't have known what to do in this situation. This confirms everything I would have thought:

Stephen Mead, assistant chief examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, says:

DO NOT

Put your foot underneath the accelerator pedal and try to lift it up. You could lose control of the vehicle

Brake. It will not help as the accelerator will still be jammed on

Pull key out of ignition — the steering will lock

Try to use handbrake. “The rear wheels are likely to lock and then it’s goodnight Vienna”

DO

Shift the car into neutral

Turn the key one notch to kill the engine. You will lose power steering and power-assisted brakes but you will still be able to control the car

 Its all well and good saying he should have done this and that when you're sitting in your stationary chair infront of your PC.

But when you're travelling at 130mph dodging traffic, fearing for your life, you don't think in the same way.

Yes - fair enough, hence why I am more disgusted by the female 999 operator not having any brain.

no it wouldnt and yes they would.

The brakes will be effective until all the boost is used - so it should be enough to stop the car. However after the boost is used they will be near useless.
