Accident

Ive run out of talent and crashed cars before, as have most. Even the almighty fox has done that :D

I suspect you've probably crashed cars in the middle of nowhere though bothering only the local wildlife rather than outside somebodies house and involving other motorists

lol no actually

I had 3 smashes before i was 19. One was going into the back of somebody at the end of the motorway sliproad as i was driving too fast (late and rushing) and didnt leave enough stopping distance. Another time was only half my fault. Went round a blind corner doing 30 something in a 30. Not exactly the speeding crime of the century, but left me no time to react when somebody came round said corner on the wrong side of the road and ploughed into me. The other one was when i had been driving about 6 months. Was going 65 in an NSL and came up to a car that was doing about 40. Obviously i raced up to the back of them, but i had to slow to let traffic in the other lane by. This lost all my momentum so when i pulled out to overtake i had to re-accelerate to 60 again, didnt have enough of a gap and had to pull back. She pulled back to let me in as well and we collided.

All of them down to youthfull inexperience.

I have no idea why people post these stories on here, it never takes long before the OCUK CPS go into over drive. Usually within 20 posts.

If the real CPS did as thorough and quick a job this country would be accident free ;)

never let the facts get in the way of being judgemental :D

Oh come off it, its posted on a public internet forum, even the most hardened of 'OMG OCUK ACCIDENT SQUAD SUX' people would have a job thinking it was being driven totally normally and then just happened to flip over a central reservation into oncoming traffic :p Unless the car is an inherent death trap which I suspect it isnt as it managed to last the first 14 years of its life without a fiery death at the hands of random acts of car spinnage.

All hail the ocuk crash detectives!

Why is it that whenever anybody on this forum posts that they've had an accident, everybody begins to attack them, and says how "it looks like you were going a lot faster than that". "That damage looks like you crashed at 50 not 40!" etc

He's posted that he's smashed up his pride and joy for godsake, If i'd done the same, and I had been arseing about in it, posting it on here would be the last thing I'd do.

On the other hand, If i'd had a genuine accident through no silliness, or abnormal circumstances then I might consider it, just for the advice i'd like to think some people might give.

Anybody who has owned or driven a rwd car on wet uk roads, I'm sure can attest to the fact that the rear can, and does step out of line occasionally. All it takes is a wet manhole cover, a bit of diesel/oil, or a white line, and it can send the back end out. It certainly doesn't take crazy speeds, to make something happen. Most of the time it can be collected up with some swift opposite lock, but theres always going to be the odd time that theres little to nothing you can do to save it, and you possibly end up tank slappering onto another carriageway.

to be fair, booting it in second at 40mph on a greasy road isn't really that clever :p
surely there's enough torque to overtake safely in 3rd? After all, it's not an S2000 ;)

just trying to appease those who say we cant possibly reach some conclusions from a few photos on the internet :D

Which is why you have to be really careful! He's written off some other chaps car, it isnt just him who has lost his pride and joy. We all over step the mark and usually it ends up in a bruised ego or in extreme cases damage to our cars. But this is rather different in that its in the middle of a residential area and has totalled some innocent guys car.

Something as lairy as a Supra demands respect. If you dont have that respect, buy something else.

What exactly do you think this thread should be about? 10 people posting 'awww mate sorry about that'? It's a discussion forum, so people will discuss. It's human nature :)

To be fair, it's only been out for two days after the winter so he probably forgot how lairy it is. Though I agree. A near 400 brake twin turbo charged RWD monster definatley demands respect.

Whilst it might not be what the OP wants to hear, it's true :( I guess with 380bhp of turbo lag on tap then it's possible that planting your foot at not unreasonable speeds could provide some interesting results, which is why you have to be careful :(

Fair enough discussing, it. But I just dislike when the op has cleary stated he was doing no more that 40mph, and everyone jumps on the OMG you must have been speeding bandwagon. He's told us what he thinks happened, is it really up to any of us to tell him otherwise?

All comments taken onboard chaps, as stated in the opening post, I fully expected the replies. I posted for no particular reason, not looking for a torrent of sympathy or abuse lol.

Maybe I was outside my limit, maybe there was something I did wrong in correcting the tail end, maybe there was something on the road, who knows! I did nothing other than respect the car the entire time I had it, I knew what it was capable of and didn't drive around like a tool. People who had been in the car with me could quite easily attest to that. Unfortunately, the one time I misjudged the conditions it bit back quite savagely.

Anyway, what has happened has happend and the main thing I'm concerned about how things will proceed now.

Clearly the geo was out.

Being serious, glad your ok. I think youve been quite 'brave' to post this on here, as your obviously going to get some beef off a lot of people on here.

Reality is, your probably too young/too inexperienced to drive a car like that.. there could be all sorts of reasons why this happened, but time after time i think its fair to say Car>Talent in this case.

My bets if I am honest is something along the lines of

Poor Tread Depth/Poor Inflation/etc, Wet roads, hitting boost going over the white line, or being a little too forceful for the conditions, you probably lifted off as the back end went and then thats all she wrote.

I'm not trying to sound like im judging you here, and Im certainly not on my high horse in any way, however lessons hopefully learned and it wont happen again for you. when I first got my s2000 I had the back end step out as I nailed it through an underpass. It was wet and I ended up sliding side to side in what seemed like a never ending experience. Somehow, by fluke the car sorted itself out and I carried on my way. Turned out I was down to the tread markers on both tyres. Bought brand new tyres that week, and vowed never to go below 3mm of tread again.

There isn't really any 'to be fair' when there is a random bloke sitting at home wondering what he's going to do now his MPV is in bits.

I really think this thread hammers home the point that there are certain cars you just shouldn't jump into simply because you can afford them. What is the OP's car history? Has he driven this sort of car before or did he jump straight into it following years of driving around in FWD stuff?

A Supra Twin Turbo can be a properly lairy car which demands respect and skill to master. Before you lambast me for being a keyboard warrior - it's probably skill I don't have. I wouldnt buy myself a 400bhp RWD car without driver aids unless I had a lot more experience or training on something because I know I'd have a fair chance of ending up like the OP.

People just seem to think provided you can afford to buy and insure a car thats all there is too it...

almost 24 actually :) with a bit of luck I'll make it lol.

The stickers provide no information about my mindset either. Though, as I have expressed already, this is my concern about how things will be percieved.
