Acer Predator XR341CK/X34 34" Curved Gaming Screens with FreeSync and G-sync

So do you guys think its worth waiting for the Gsync version of this monitor or jump in for LS34E790C?

I've been on the fence for months now and getting impatient.

It's a very different monitor to the Samsung, which is only 60Hz and has no G-Sync or Freesync, and a different VA panel, vs IPS on the Acer. Apples and oranges in pretty much every respect apart from the 21:9 format. Really depends what you are looking for in a monitor.

I've been holding off for a faster panel preferable with Gsync (may as well use it). But as for the panel type all I really know/heard is that the VA panel doesn't suffer as much backlight bleed as the current IPS 34" ultrawides.

Wait for the gsync.

Also, I've seen just now the review by Linus of the CKA. Man, boy is drooling so hard all over it that when he'll see the gsync version he'll have to post the review on uporn

I watched the review on it and it is looking promising, then you hear the horror stories of Acer products.

You're right that the Samsung is probably the best of all the ultrawides regards BLB and other issues that seem to affect the IPS panels, but it is by no means flawless and without faults. Plus, as mentioned it's only 60Hz and has no Freesync/G-Sync. For a general all purpose monitor for someone who's not a hardcore gamer but just wants a good looking decent 21:9 monitor from a reliable manufacturer, it is a solid choice.

The fact the XR34 is made by Acer is its biggest problem. There are major concerns about how well it will be QC'd, and rightly so given the disaster that is the XB270HU. It's too early to tell if the just released Freesync version is following in its footsteps, but at this price point it needs to be near flawless, and Acer arguably have the worst track record of any manufacturer in this regard, so the odds aren't great. Only time will tell...

$1,200 = £767.85 = £921.42 with VAT, so, maybe a bit less than £1k.

It's so tempting until you realise it's Acer. It's still tempting, especially for someone that's never experienced >60hz or GSync.

Lmao, true.

I thought the next big Acer monitor was the IPS version of the ROG Swift?

no you are right they are making a ips version of the rog swift at the moment its between this and that for me depends which one is out first :D

I'm hugging my totally faultless brilliant rog swift for a good while yet I think. I just can't face the stress of dealing with the ******** lottery that is 'screens' these days.

It literally feels like a 50 / 50 gamble buying high end gaming monitors at the moment, it's a totally unacceptable, frankly odd situation that we seem to be in with certain PC hardware that's happened in the last few years

I'm not personally fond of the whole "You just spent £600 on a monitor and it's perfectly fine for it to not be perfect" mentality everyone seems to have.

It's put me off buying monitors entirely, especially ones that are a huge investment.

Agree 100%. It seems lots of Brits are bizarre in their attitudes to consumerism.

Getting an expensive monitor with terrible backlight leakage in one corner (just one example) is akin to buying a new car with only 3 wheels to me. Seems like people think, "well 3 of the wheels work ok, I can drive it if I lean to the left as much as I can." "I don't want to send it back, what if I get a car that only has 2 wheels? The 3 I've got are really good wheels"

Bonkers.

Well ok, this is indeed a totally legit and righteous way of thinking and who doesn't agree with that. But..... first of all you have return policies covering 101% of your expenses. Second you've probably noticed that people tend to be kind of weird sometimes right? Especially in the internet. It's not exactly the place where the absolute truth and evidence happens, isn't it?

Flipping the coin upside down what I've seen are people who changed 6 monitors _in a row_ for blb or whatever else, asking for 5 rma and a final refund. And then if you look at the picture they posted the only thing you can possible wonder if they are totally nuts or just nuts. Probably they just wanted to be that guy who posted his experience of rma'ing 6 monitors for horrible blb and be worshipped by the "oh look what an unbelievable story" crowd on reddit. What a lovely day! LoL

Yet, if you own one of these screens and you have some very slightly blb in one corner, and you set brightness at 100% and take a pic with your 2 Mpixel smartphone, maybe with some incident light from your wide open window at noon, you'll see Hitler himself in that corner.

Don't forget another simple fact, the monitors that are sent back aren't disintegrated by some kind of magic gun of oblivion. They stay in the damn ring and will be picked up by someone else.

TL;DR: always remember people are strange. Don't be that people first, post later.
