Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

bought my PC to work with me today to install my 2nd 980 GTX and also to test the new monitor ASAP!

Oh my god it is B-E-A-Utiful!

Zero dead pixels, GTA 5 is a monster

coming from 144hz 1080p, this has been the first viable option for me - so so happy!

Also there is pretty bad backlight bleed in the bottom right. :(

Turn the brightness down, im at 50% in a bright office, 100% is way too bright and will exaggerate the issue. May help.

I believe most of the time it is down to the chassis applying just small amounts of pressure onto the panel which can cause it.

Backlight bleed is subjective/worse if you keep looking at it. I thought mine was bad when I got it but now that I think of it, it isn't seems to settle in (just closed all the blind and doors now to check). Let it "burn in" for a few days. Almost all monitors have some sort of bleed/ips glow (ips monitors).

I could take a bet that you could get 10 and they all had some bleed, just prepare yourself for some unhappiness as you will get some with dead pixels (this to me is the worst).

Also in your picture there is a persons dark shadow (you :P) which is making it look even worst than it is.

Jeez, it seems the more you pay for these gsync monitors the more problems they have.

I mean the Swift seems bad for failure rates but at least they have decent panels and you rarely see complaints about pixels or backlight bleed.

I could not use a monitor with IPS glow as bad as that. Talk about colour shift on TN, you don't even need to shift your head for colours to change on that IPS panel :p

That looks like backlight bleed, not IPS glow.

All monitors are just as likely to have back light bleed as any other, from my experience with the ultra wide monitors, back light bleed seems to be more down to how well put together the chassis is as with the lg 34um95, if you remove the bottom bezel strip, the back light bleed goes completely i.e. the bottom bezel was screwed in too tight.

Also, IPS glow is only really noticeable on dark scenes and in dim/no lighting, anything else and you don't notice it at all. However, backlight bleed can be noticeable on brighter images and even in a bright room, depending on how bad it is.

I have seen just as many problems with back light bleed etc. for the swift that look far worse than the above on other forums i.e.

Have a quick look at the gallery for that thread.

@those with the bleed/severe IPS glow

- try dropping brightness before judging the screen, less than 30% is the ideal setting imo
- buy a LED strip for the back of your monitor, it makes the blacks look better + the screen pops out more and it is just a lot easier on your eyes with dim/no lighting in your room

And for those that hate the glossy plastic!

To the guy above, don't go through acer, their CS is absolutely awful, you are within 14 days, so post here:

And Bailey etc. should sort out a RMA

It is because one is paying so much they expect super perfection (maybe justifiably). Only CRT's/Plasma will give near perfect uniformity (glow/backlight bleed/backlight uniformity)

so are there any settings for drivers/windows we need to sort for this? ive got 2 dell u2410's alongside it which are 60hz, guessing this wont make a difference?

with regards to SLI is it right to plug all 3 monitors in 1 card? got 2 by dvi and this obv by dp.

muchas gracias :)

^^

Those photo looks way too over exposed which just exaggerates the problem even more.

And I've seen even worse images than the above and those Swift images on the overclock.net thread for this monitor ;)

Yup no matter where you look, it will always vary, neither the swift or acer are exactly "perfect".

Either way, you wouldn't put up with even a small amount of bleed in one corner of either monitor considering the price of them.

G-sync is indeed great. Had my first one from Italy and had to return it due to 5! dead pixels and one spot on the center. Hopefully the ocuk one will be better in that regard. Sometimes i wish Apple made these screens as well. Sure you pay a premium but at least no dead pixels on backlight bleed!

Hopefully it's just a case of those with bad ones or checking for it posting about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of these monitors have bad bleed considering it is acer and their QC + build quality sucks.

However, at the same time, it is also probably just a case of the people who are having problems being more vocal than those who have good monitors just like with the asus rog swift and all the members posting about their swift's dying and the ultrawide screens with their back light bleed etc.

The strangest thing about those 2 photos is they are 2 separate monitors with near enough the exact same backlight bleed pattern.

My bet is on the chassis applying too much pressure to the panel.

With the ultrawide IPS monitors, the majority of screens had severe back light bleed on the bottom left and sometimes the bottom right but the rest of the screen was fine usually...

Brightness is at 50 (correction 40 but I've tried lower, doesn't help), not going to make the screen dull by putting it down much more than that and it would not fix it much anyway.
