Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

My refund request has gone through. I gave them bank details and date for when they will pick it up.

I was advised (1-2 weeks ago) that refund would take about 5 working days.

Here is the cluster of dead pixels on the replacement:
DeadPixels_Small.jpg

They're certainly not dead ones, stuck if anything, but could even be something else as they appear to have soft edges (stuck pixels tend to be solid, no bleeding, in my experience). Regardless, it's TOTALLY unacceptable on any level. Acer seem to have given up on this entirely. I sincerely hope they do better with the upcoming XR34 Freesync/G-Sync models... at around £1000, the proverbial doo doo is really going to hit the fan if those monitors get the same QC treatment as the XB270HU.

OCUK, how can you continue to do business with these cowboys?? It's TOTALLY unfair on your customers.

Just had an email from Acer, seems they will not send any further monitors out as they are no improvement on the originals, a refund is being arranged.

I was originally booked to receive a replacement next week due to being away, so any others waiting will get the same email I guess.

So why send out monitors when they know they are not better ? This company (Acer) needs a serious wake up call. OCUK gone quiet as usual.

There "Customer is King" motto comes with T&C.

It's all rather strange and I'm not going to even try and decipher what Acer are thinking. They are collecting and refunding my monitor this week, not sure what to get as a replacement for it now though.

Well I've just got my replacement and after going over it for a few minutes I dont appear to have any dead/stuck pixels or dirt this time.

Cant see BLB/Glow properly yet until the evening so I'm halfway there at least.

Manufacture date is March 2015 here too.

I think I win the bad replacement game. New screen doesn't even display anything, plug the old one back everything works again, top notch from Acer. MFR date is March 2015.

I think we are just better to wait it out to see if a better screen comes along soon. I have my eye on the ASUS equivalent
of this screen when it is released thought since it has the same panel as this screen, it might carry some of the same sort
of issues like Backlight bleed and dead or stuck pixels.

It seems us in the UK are getting screwed over with old batches being shipped over that nobody wants and those in the US are getting the brand new build batches every month.

Looking at the Swift thread you really think the Asus will be better??

I need to stop viewing these threads before purchasing a monitor..

At this point I don't think I am going to be happy with anything I purchase, but I don't fancy keeping my singular 25UM55..

The horses mouth... completely honest.

I purchased one of the very first Acer Predators XB270HU back in April on launch week (from another company).

The box had been opened and resealed.
I had no dead pixels.
I had no trapped dirt.
I had no tiny creatures crawling across my screen (shame as I like a bet).
I couldn't give a to ss about the stand/usb/bezel etc.
In fact for 8 hours I was so stunned by the visuals that I duly posted on this thread to claim the new king of gaming had finally arrived.

Sadly as night drew in and dusk melted into artificial dimmed lighting I was stunned to see "the yellow glow" gradually creep across the screen from the bottom right corner into the centre screen (as if my monitor had come out in sympathy on the 70th anniversary year of Hiroshima). It was slightly visible on lighter representations, but horrific on any night scene game, or movie.

Upon returning, RMA was denied and distance selling was accepted so i was charged to return it.

3 months later, 57 pages here/220 on O/clock net and counting, I decided to try another... from here... as it is currently on offer £50 down on last week...

BUT FIRST... I 'customer supported' with a few different suppliers for their HONEST opinion before finally taking the plunge.

At last... integrity.. albeit from a rival customer support team.

From The Horses Mouth... Honesty

"Being completely honest, I cannot recommend Acer's monitors for gaming. The issues you've experienced have been prevalent on many revisions and on various sizes also. In light of this, I am only recommending the Asus ROG Swift with a TN panel.

This first gen IPS effort by Acer is completely lackluster in my personal and professional opinion, so I'd have to say it's not quite prime time for G-Sync IPS just yet - I'd be waiting for a second gen unit to avoid such issues myself, so I'm sorry to say but there's no G-Sync IPS panel that I will recommend at the present time."

My initial disgust at this rival has been soothed and my trust has returned.

As I have stated throughout this thread... I do not blame the retailers, but....

ALL WE WANT IS TO BE TREATED AS ALL CUSTOMERS SHOULD... AS IF WE MATTER... AS IF WE ARE NOT JUST A ROUTE TO A QUICK BUCK.

ALL WE WANT IS A PRODUCT THAT DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN

We don't want something for nothing.... just the truth.
Now let's move on...

It does seem to be a monitor to forget for the most part. I know you'll ALWAYS see more negative feedback about something like this than you will the positive, but that negativity is just so overwhelming and the horror stories so prevalent, it's hard to comprehend why anyone would take a risk with this. I wonder if the upcoming 21:9 XR34 will suffer the same fate... that truly would be an epic disaster for a £1,000 'premium' monitor. Acer need to get out of this market sector and stay out, and it's reached the stage now where I don't understand why OCUK are still doing business with them. It's an insult and crime against their customers.

The plot evaporates...

Just had a reply from O/C stating the problem I had was prevalent to "revision 1" but they cannot guarantee I would receive "a newer revision monitor" if I bought it today and they were "sorry for the disappointment".
Hmmmm...

Well that sorts that out. At least I can now get on with my life and stop waking early every morning to check multiple forums to see if Acer have finally got their finger out.

I guess I am going to have to spend my hard earned readies on a new fridge freezer. I hope Acer don't make them... DOH!

You're gonna have to share that prize - just unboxed my "new" replacement and got the same. Blue LED and Windows detects a display but nothing on the screen at all. About to post a more detailed report...
