Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

Well I have just received my replacement from the Acer Escalation Team and I haven`t opened it but it seems to be Of a March 2015 build version.

I am not happy at all about the fact that even the Acer Escalation Team themselves are not giving customers newest build versions.

By the sounds of it this might be QC but they are certainly not the improved build versions.

This replacement shouldn't suffer from bad backlight bleed or dead or stuck pixels if it has been QC as promised.

I will let you guys know once I have checked the screen but it doesn't look good considering it is of a old batch.

That's terrible, they make us wait all this time for a new batch of better quality monitors then just send out the old original stock months later!!!

I've also had a replacement delivered today at home so I don't know the build date of mine yet, will report back this evening.

Maybe it took so long for them to find a decent March 2015 monitor and you are in luck. Approach with optimism, have disappointment on standby....
Does it say March 2015 on the monitor or was that from the box ?

It says March 2015 on both the box and the screen itself. Perhaps the UK hasn't had any new stock of the new batches yet and Acer are shipping their old stock here
to try to get rid of them. I don`t think I have read anybody here in the UK receiving a newer batch than March 2015 or april 2015 in our own UK shops. Most of the
comments I have seen of users getting a May and june build has been from the likes of the US.

Perhaps some users here in the UK has received a newer build if they had it imported from the US, etc.

Strange thought that Acer Escalation Team couldn't even get us a newer build considering the length of time we have waited

I will let you guys know how this replacement screen is once I have fully tested it for any issues.

Even if the screen has little to know backlight bleed or dead or stuck pixels, I am still not very happy about the fact that it is not one of those a newer builds
where they have improved some features like adding the ULMB at 120 Hz support, etc which this March 2015 build won't have any of these improvements.

Still waiting for mine to show up. Id imagine considering where I am that it would probably be tomorrow when I receive it.

The whole build date thing could be something to worry about. However I do wonder if these replacement monitors are simply new & unused re QC'd samples by Acer and not necessarily "fresh batch" new.

Which could be fine... but at the same time not.

Been reading in the US that some of the May 2015 ones suffer really badly from bleed and pixels. There early batch didnt seem as bad. They were basically bit opposite to us. Good first batch bad second batch.

If other users getting a replacement from the Acer Escalation Team also get an old batch build like mine then it looks like the Acer Escalation Team
have got hold of old stock existing from a US shop not direcly from the Acer manufactures and got them QC before shipping to the UK.

If the stock was shipped straight from the Acer manufacturer themselves to the distributor then they would have been of a new build.

I think I might just decide to arrange a refund. On further testing of the replacement I have spotted two dead or stuck pixels and
backlight bleed in both left and right bottom corners which is noticeable on a black background even in the day time.

I won`t know how bad the backlight bleed really is until later tonight when it is dark.

I will give it till tomorrow before making my mind up whether I am going to keep it or arrange a refund.

I have a feeling backlight bleed and dead or stuck pixels will always be a issue with this screen no mater the
batch, build version and it will be a lottery to get a good one with no backlight bleed and dead or stuck pixels.

I have some serious Backlight bleed issues with this monitor, but only really when I'm viewing it from an angle.

My main issue is the mass of Thunderflies that have decided to take lodgings in it.
I cant get them out, and I can't afford to drop another £700 on a monitor.

Any suggestions?

That will be IPS Glow not Backlight bleed. You can normally notice Backlight bleed on a black background even when sitting straight.

This screen normally suffers from Backlight bleed around the corners of the screen.

My replacement was also dated March 15. Aside from the addition of 120hz ULMB, it still has that noticeable bottom left side bleed. Not really sure what QC they did. Looking at a black page straight on, and it's (bleeding) obvious.

Looks like it will be a refund. What a waste of time. :(

Are you saying yours has ULMB at 120 Hz support? How do you find out if the screen has ULMB 120 Hz support?

If you disable Gysnc, and select a refresh rate not 85, 100, or 120. Then press the button next to the power to bring up the OSD, then select the ULMB mode it displays "ULMB Only possible at 85 100 120hz"

It looks like the new stock hasn't been quality checked at all for any issues and just had the firmware upgraded which does nothing to cure the Backlight bleed and dead or stuck pixels.

I have sent Mark from the Acer Escalation Team an email to let him know the replacement is just as bad and I would like to arrange refund.

I intend to try my best not to let the money burn a hole in my pocket and wait some months to see what other screens are coming out this year or early next year.

I can confirm my replacement is just more Acer junk. Whilst the back light bleed is better, with a quick check I've found at least 5 dead pixels, with a cluster of 3/4 in my direct eyeline right in the middle of where the Google search box is.

The box for the monitor was resealed either because they QC it (badly) or it's a return.

Acer have outdone themselves with **** poor service with this monitor and OCUK have long since forgotten about this disaster...time for a refund.

Was your replacement a March 2015 build version as well?

Here is the cluster of dead pixels on the replacement:

Mine is due to arrive next Wednesday as I'm currently on holiday, let me know how you guys get on with the refund as I've been waiting for a chance at a refund, last time I tried they said they wouldn't entertain the idea until the 'new batch' had been sent out, now seems the new are actually old monitors and not sure now what the wait was for, won't be buying another monitor for a while as all these new monitors seem to have unresolvable issues.

QC by the big gaming monitor players seems pretty poor across the board at the moment and in this price bracket it should be pretty perfect, my old dell I paid £200 for a few years back is still as perfect as the day I bought it.
