** Acme [Akagi] bought a pink estate car - E30 325i project log! **

Yes thats the one. I think it can only provide very very basic diagnostic information though. Not sure if it gives any info on ABS faults. Someone in the club has a reader though so I'll see if he can plug it in when we are at a meet/show.

Been persuaded to go to a rolling road meet with it on the 7th of July.

Rated 170HP crank when new
Engine originally built 28 - 29 years ago
200,000 miles on the bottom end
70,000 miles since the head was re-built
Tappets freshly adjusted
Good service history
New oil, filters, plugs, fuel, etc
Doesn't use or lose any fluid
100% stock mechanically

Possible drawbacks - Injectors have never been serviced, though I have run injector cleaner through the system a couple of times... And it doesn't have an optimal exhaust setup.

Place your bets. It feels really healthy so I'm going to guess fairly close to original rated power. I'll say 159HP.

First bath in 6 months or so I suppose!
MOT in the morning!

Had to clay the whole car, and do several passes on every panel, because of the amount of metal dust that had latched onto it... Also had to wet sand a couple of bits because of overspray...

It wasn't dodgy dodgy. I didn't exactly get it through with worn this and rotten that and broken this and illegal that etc. I just got him to turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. Oh look, no light. :p

Going to re-test all the sensors tomorrow, and get the ABS ECU and relay out, clean the connections, check the wires etc, and spray a load of brake cleaner on the ABS rings...

I've noticed that the light now comes on as soon as the speedo moves off the stop, so as soon as I hit 10MPH. So I think it is a wheel sensor or a dirty ring ( ) after all. Just need to find the one.

You were told to check all that ages ago. How hard is it to clean up the ABS rings with a little brush

Not hard at all to clean them.

Quite hard to actually get to them without disassembling a lot of things. Especially on the back. Caliper and disk has to come off, handbrake shoe assembly has to come out, brake disk backplates have to come off (which will disintegrate and I'll need to buy new ones) and then I think you can see the rings, which are part of the driveshafts. Best I did last time is spray loads of brake cleaner on them through a little hole.

This bit is red now, can see the filler isn't perfect when the light catches it right, but it looks OK as a temp measure. :)

Also selling my OE 15" BBS with OE size tyres and getting some non OE 15" BBS with incorrectly sized tyres somewhen very soon... :p

Oh and I took loads of pictures to get bodywork and re-spray priced up.

Oh and somehow its now insured with an agreed value with documentation to prove, of £7000.

Totally ludicrous but at least I know it doesnt matter that it was a money pit if it gets crashed... :p

Yes I am. But I got this year with agreed value and protected no claims for the same price as last year with neither of those things.

Market value is probably 2.5K in its current state. But it has 4.5K in it.

No. It's just nice to know that if it does, my wallet doesn't go for an almighty burton :p

Bodywork and re-spray is likely to be £2000, then I want an LSD which is another £500, and then I want my new wheels which will be £100 after selling the old ones, thats another £2600 ****** on it. :p
